The Chinese Spring Festival is approaching, years in Chinese are different, Chinese calendar has a 12 year cycle and each year is named after animal, such as Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Chook, Dog, Pig. we call these 12 kinds of animals Chinese zodiac. The approaching year 2017 is Chook year, when a baby is born in 2017, and its zodiac is Chook, we call it "chook baby" ~LOL. (Mylotters can guess my zodiac) And there is a tradition in China that we often put money in a red paper, then give it to the elders and children. Now I am thinking something different, I wanna buy some gifts for our parents and my brother and sister. but I don't know what to chosse Is mylotter here can give me some advise?

Yes, red is considered a lucky colour in China, so we make red paper as red envelopes, and fill it with money, it means "lucky money" and bring us "Good Luck", and there are various beautiful red envelopes in China.

I received money in a red envelope from one of my Chinese students and still keep it for good luck inside my wallet. When we visited Hong Kong, we had all our names of our family hand painted on framed cloth with our Chinese birthdays. I'm sure something personal will be appreciated.

Nice. There are different traditions in different place, and you can see many traditions in Chinese Spring Festival. In addition, The Chinese people love to stick couplets , which are also written on red paper, we write our good wishes on it, both urban and rural areas, each household must select a red couplets affixed to the door in order to increase the festive atmosphere.

Gifts are kind of feelings towards people. So gift them whatever you feel like giving to them..
