Newbies like to flood the myLot site with posts

United States
December 22, 2016 12:40pm CST
I was scrolling through the 'most recent' posts looking for something to read and comment on. I found a few but then ran into a road block so to speak. One person posted at least 8 times within an hour. I checked the person's profile and it's a newbie. That's usually how it happens. I looked at a few and most had 2 or 3 responses. I know that many people start out doing just that - they think that is the way it works here. It's not but it's hard to make them understand. Drowning the myLot site with post after post is not productive but live and learn as they say. lood-seat-chair-bench-water-989081/

They don't understand that a quantity of short posts and sitting back waiting for earnings to roll in isn't going to succeed here.

I tried to tell that to one a few months ago and the person sort of told me I didn't know what I was talking about - so I said - do it your way bye.

@AbbyGreenhill I remember a woman who wrote in French. Many people told her to write English only. She just kept saying it is international and she can do what she wants. I guess the admins thought otherwise.

If I see too many posts by one person in a row then I usually end up passing them by. A lot of times they will only be one sentence or two at the most.

It's very annoying and time consuming LOL (for us)

I think that that is one of the reasons why I first check my notifications and then the friends I´m following.

I checked everyone and it's quiet today so I went thru most recent.

When I see several posts in a short amount of time from the same person, I tend to scroll right on by without reading or replying.

@Fleurnight What I usually find are the discussions are more one or two lines with very little meaningful content, and since my time is usually much more limited than it is now with the holiday, I have to choose carefully which posts to read and which to bypass. Over time, I've learned that most of those who post several posts in a row in a short period of time are not posting discussions of interest to me. They are often very generic topics. While I might miss a few interesting opportunities, I have to take the measures I feel best use my time.

@DWDavis Like the ones - I got up...I got dressed...I ate cereal...I washed the dishes... Sorta snooze time!

If it's a real newbie I will often try to help them by explaining - I think most of them are just ignorant of how the site works.

We've got a few mylotters who have been here a while still do that. But the thing that is bad is when it's a one line discussion. That's not anything to respond to! But when I see newbies do that I don't know whether to say something to them or not. So I usually don't.

I have always tried to help newbies, but it seems so many really don't want help.

I think I am guilty with that one before but being a mylot member, you really value the connections and the interactions here in the site. You are right, we learn about it the hard way... unfortunately.

Newbies also need to ask questions and check out the site to get a feel for things that would make the learning curve much easier.

You are right there seems to be a lot of new people looking the site over. A lot of forums have an introduction section and they encourage new people to use it before posting.

There could be maybe a 'newbie' section here with specific instructions that they would be required to read.

You're right. That's exactly how many newbies behave. Some newbies ask what kind of posts they should write to be successful on the site instead of reading around and finding this out for themselves.

there are no specific things to write - there is no guaranty. You should write what you enjoy writing about and see how it goes! Those that post so often usually leave in a week or so.

I've found that as well. Not only is it post after post, but most of them are just a line or two. If you were to conjoin all eight posts they might have some content that I could relate to.

Exactly - they write one sentence and the next sentence is a separate post. They 'assume' you make money by posting.

What a great lesson to learn here... As a newbie, one should not be too forward. I wasn't aware of the other benefits until I get here to make fun. "You wanna play-fun? Get down to mylot" - That's what a guy told me. And really, it's make sense here

this site reminds me of a site i used to visit a decade ago. it was a site for a specific group of ppl within the city. i met alot of friends there, even a couple became real life friends. however since i moved to another country i stopped going there and now it became quiet and familiar faces are all gone....

I also started that way. I went mad just posting and posting and posting but wasn't earning. Haha! Now i understand you need to participate with discussions and post interesting and sensible discussions. :)

and the opposite also happens. an old member finds out mylot is back, but makes the same mistake: short posts one after another - except they're all excerpts from other websites!

@AbbyGreenhill oh, the comebacking member was copying snippets from sites like wikipedia

@hereandthere That means they couldn't come up with something on their own LOL.

@AbbyGreenhill Exactly. If I am going to post a couple, I let at least 2 hours go between. I know nobody want to see the same poster over and over.

Sometimes, they don't even come back to respond to people who answer them. They post a bunch of discussions and then wait for the money to roll in. It does not work that way.

There really isn't anything in the guidelines about how many time you can or can't post....maybe there should b e.

@AbbyGreenhill they should have better guidelines. I'm not bothered too much about people posting a lot as it gives me something to read!! If they post loads one after another it does clog up most recent though and that's annoying at times.
