First time for everything!

This year, the holidays came far too quick. I have been having a very rough year financially and continue to hope it will get better. My daughter's health has been on the balance and she has spent an enormous amount of time in the hospital. She has 3 major surgeries and a few minor procedures and well lots of antibiotics. Now that she has been home for about 1 month now, I started realizing just how difficult this all has been. I also realized just how broke I am. I realized I don't have any money for gifts and I hate that feeling. I know I have raised my children to understand sometimes we have it and sometimes we don't. So being broke and not sure what to do I decided that a little homemade cheer will go a long way. Everyone who knows us already knows our situation. They will be happy that we put our love and energy into these treats. Last night we made up 9 candy (dialysis friendly) bags to bring to the kids on dialysis this morning. We made 3 batches of chocolate chip cookies and 3 batches of chocolate fudge. I have never made either of those recipes from scratch but I promise they came out delicious. Now we are going to bring the candy to the hospital and come home and turn one pan of fudge into adorable little dreidels we found on the internet. You take the fudge square, add a chocolate kiss to the top, dip in melted chocolate, add a pretzel stick for the top for twirling purposes and write the hebrew letters when it dries. Hoping those come out nice. Hope everyone else is doing something they love!

My grandmother used to say "A gift made by the hands is a gift from the heart." I know those to whom you give your heartfelt, handmade gifts will love and appreciate your effort and kindness. Prayers for you and your family, especially your daughter.
