Nezumi goes to the vet

She had a sore on her chin that could have been an abscess, plus she'd been sneezing and snorting quite a bit lately. So we found a vet (about a half mile from home!) that got great reviews. Our neighbor's daughter will be doing her internship there! It's an all female practice, which is another plus. After some waiting, and a chat with the vet tech and the receptionist, we found that our girl probably just has the feline version of the herpes virus, which is chronic and causes her intermittent breathing woes. The vet suggested supplementation with Lysine, as that is the only thing they have found that helps build up the immune system during outbreaks. At one point the vet needed to see Nezumi on the table again, but the vet tech had gone. A few years ago I wouldn't have been brave enough to do this, but I went and got her and held her so the doc could see her chin and teeth. Long story short? Our girl is doing okay for her age, doesn't need expensive medications, and doesn't have awful expensive tooth problems either!

Oh, she was already on the mend when we brought her to the vet - but we took her anyway, so they could check for issues that needed help.

Yeah, me too. As it is, she has sniffly days and good days, so we want more good days.

That's a shame she has a chronic condition but it could have been worse I guess.

True, but all it ever does is give her the sniffles - doc says her lungs are clear and sound fine.
