Who knows a lot about Android Smartphones?

I am hoping someone here may be able to help me with this issue I am having with my android smartphone. I bought my phone from a neighbor and reset it to factory settings. I do not have service on it, I am just using it on wifi, but my neighbor did have service on it when he had it. He got a new phone and had his number transferred to his new phone. The issue I am having is, everytime he gets a voicemail, I get the notification on my phone and the icon will not go away until I go into my app settings and clear all data on the phone application. Why am I getting notifications of his voicemails even though I reset the phone to factory settings, and how do I make it stop? Since I don't plan on getting service turned on for this phone, I wouldn't mind completely disabling the voicemail all together, but I see no way to do that when I go to the application. I have tried googling it and seen that others have had a similar issue but I could not find a resolution for the problem.

I've not heard of a situation like this. I know I've been somewhat disappointed with my newest Android phone.

Me either, it doesn't make any sense to me. How come you are disapointed with your new Android phone? I love mine and haven't had any issues other than this one.

@Angelee_27 I bought a Galaxy Note 5 for the bigger screen. It has a weird habit of deciding it doesn't want to be a cell phone anymore about 1/2 way through the day. All the other smartphone features still work, but I can't call and text without shutting it off and restarting it.

@DWDavis Hmm... that's a very big problem. Maybe it's a faulty phone, have you taken to where you bought it and explained what's going on?

That is really odd, I feel like this question could be answered on reddit or some forum with more tech people

You can always call the manufacturers or the old service provider and speak to a rep they may be able to help with that.Good luck I know how much of a pain that can be.

That's an interesting dilemma... The SIM card has been moved to the new phone, so the voicemail service should have moved also... Weird.

Yes, interesting indeed. I don't understand it at all, but it's driving me nuts! My neighbor gets A LOT of voicemails daily!

Hmm. I've had mine for a few months. Maybe you should call your carrier and talk to customer service about it.

Would they still be able to help if I don't have service with them? I don't know what carrier it was used through, but I could find out.

@KristenH I feel like if I call, as soon as they find out I am not even a customer they won't be willing to help and will probably try to pursuade me to get service with them.
