Holiday Sweets & My Sugar Addiction _ YIKES

The reverse culture shock of coming home - has been complicated by a resurgence of my old sugar addiction. After having lived in various Asian countries for the past 12 years - I had set down (for the most part) my addiction to sugary sweets. In South Korea for example - the pizza dough is sweet, loaf bread tends to be sweet yet the breading of cake is nearly sugarless & the frosting made from buttercream! YUCK to all of it!! Chocolate in Cambodia & Thailand tastes waxy to me & made with some-kinda sugar substitute that leaves an aftertaste. In Malaysia - the spicy foods were quelled with sugar (cups of it in a single entree!) more so than in South Korea. And just to twist chocolate in another knot - there is the ever popular (in Asia) chocolate cheese slices. Don't ask & Don't taste - you won't be able to erase the experience from your palate.
Now that I'm home - my BFF made some decadent Butterscotch Clusters. She uses premium butterscotch chips, melted down & drizzled over little scoopfuls of peanuts, pecans & potato sticks. The salty flavors from the nuts & potato snack balance the sweetness of the butterscotch. And I've already eaten 5 pieces! No matter how much I like these treats - I simply can not indulge like this! I think I've already gained 10 pounds in the month I've been back! Oyie!
So many forgotten foods are now readily available - will I be able to keep my figure trim? I better Zumba my way though :)

@marlina well - those butterscotch clusters are RICH in calories. The last time "calorie burn" came up in Zumba it was roughly 700 calories per hour - and if a BS Cluster has 1200 calories -- and I ate 5 of those bad boys - oyies! I'll be a Zumba-ing into the New Year for sure!

Enjoy yourself eating things that taste great, savory, salty, sweet, robust, spicy. But do it all in moderation. You tummy will thank you for this. lol, as I reach for a very sugary and creamy coffee.
