The Ghost Of Christmas Past

Christmas, for the most part, is over. I can't say I am sorry. I remember when Christmas was so exciting. But then again, I was a kid then. Times were much simpler. You just asked Santa for something, and if your parents had enough money, you got it. If you didn't, you were grateful for what you did get. How times have changed. I wonder what the homeless people tell their children. What does Santa bring them? A blanket? A can of Chef-boy-ardee? A new box to sleep on? We are living in a world full of ungrateful children, who expect the best, and will take no less. Children who have no idea what it means to have nothing. My children had high aspirations for Christmas this year. Not ridiculously so, but high none-the-less. They got what they asked for. Fortunately, I could afford it. I can not say that it brought no anxiety though. The things they wanted were in high demand, and hard to find. My stress level suffered. I am totally exhausted. They are happy with their gifts, and I am happy that they are happy. Mostly, I am happy that this nonsense is over, and I have a whole year before I have to worry about this again. Merry Christmas.

I have to agree with you about children having high expectations and sadly often being less than grateful. I think some probably have some hard lessons in store.

Too much stuff is just too much stuff. People overdo everything. I wasn't brought up that way we got one gift from santa and some homemade things (my mother knit, sewed, etc. so always new doll clothes or something like that). I never had kids, but I like to think I would not have gone into the poor house buying every little thing they asked for. There should be limits, whether you can afford things or not...too much is still too much.

Totally agree with you. You feel like you have to get them what they ask for as well because you know all their friends will get them and don't want your kids to feel left out. It is so hard sometimes
