Trying out the Instant Pot for the first time

I did the water test which everyone says you should do. That was simple enough. Now I am making jasmine rice in it for our dinner. It is supposed to cook for only 4 minutes and then it takes 10 minutes for the pressure to come down so I can open the thing up. I will be very happy if it works because I will be able to get rid of my dying rice maker.

I hope the first servings taste like rice, and not plastic or metal. Our new coffee maker at work was making plastic-tasting coffee last time I checked.

Sounds like crappy coffee to me.

yuck. I did the "water test" that they recommend and that is supposed to remove any residual aromas from it.

@ElusiveButterfly I just think the coffee maker hadn't been "broken in." At least I hope so!

I don't make rice enough to buy any special cooker for it. I will keep using my stove top for it.

@NJChicaa I have seen them, but have never used a pressure cooker. They actually scare me. My mother put the fear of explosion into my mind.

This also works as a pressure cooker and slow cooker, both of which I needed so it really seemed like a handy machine for me.

Is an Instant Pot like a slow cooker or crock pot? Jasmine rice sounds good.
