Impower Jacket

Someone donated 50 of these jackets to a homeless shelter here in Boise. The jacket looks like a normal nice men's jacket but actually breaks down to a sleeping bag. Some homeless women in Detroit constructed these jackets. They are water resistant. It is great for the homeless people who don't do well in shelters for mental reasons. A lot of homeless people don't like to stay in the shelters because they end up losing their belongings and that includes their bedding. They can stay in the shelter and then have their impower jacket with them when they leave. Great idea! It is going to be getting down to single digits next week here. I can't even imagine living outside in that kind of weather.

@celticeagle I can't find it in the online stores here. Perhaps it is still a very new product.

hhm, that sounds like something that should get sold for car emergency kits (buy one and one gets donated sort of deal)

It looks like a normal man's jacket. The lining is the secret.

My family was homeless for a short 3 months several years ago due to a natural disaster. We had never been homeless before and FEMA wasnt much help. We had to leave our home without any belongings. I think... i know i use to... people take clothing and warm bedding for granted but after suddenly being homeless with nothing I know how much those things mean to a person. That is so kind they made them for the shelter!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. I was homeless with my daughter about 35 years ago. I vowed then it would be the last time. FEMA is sort of hit and miss it seems. Other material things don't mean as much when you have been homeless and not had the basics. I hope all is well for you now.
