Are you in a hurry to say farewell to the year 2016?
Tomorrow night, try to contain your excitement because a "leap second" will be added to the world's clocks.
We had 26 "leaps seconds" since the year 1972, when the "leap second" has been implemented.
Le last one was not added at the end of the year, but took place on June 30, 2015.
Are you planning a New Year Eve party at home, or you go out to celebrate?

@bunnybon7 I am so glad they did, many pets were scared, run out of their houses and went killed on the roads.

Don't I know it.
Why they have to wait until 23:59:59 on 31-Dec to add the extra second, when the last one was in June, I do not know. Some places that rely on accurate time will have put in a lot of work to ensure that their computers, financial and manufacturing systems do not behave in in unpredictable way when the clock "sees" an extra second just before midnight!

I heard about the leap second today as I was driving to work.
We are probably going to stay home and celebrate together. We have yet to be invited out this year. Actually, we haven't been invited out to celebrate New Year's Eve in a long time. Mostly because when we were invited I had to work New Year's Day. We did go once but only spent a short time there.
Not a problem to celebrate with just the two of us.

@LadyDuck last year I was in bed before the ball dropped. So was my husband. The new year happens even if we are not awake to see it.

@ElusiveButterfly Last year we were sleeping and we were woken up by the noise of the fireworks of the Italians, we are close enough to the border to hear their fireworks. This year they also have banned the fireworks, I hope we can sleep.

First I hear about the leap second but I don't think I'm going to notice. I'm not doing anything special. All the best!

I will be celebrating New Year's Eve in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. One thing's for certain, Disney World knows how to put on an amazing New Years fireworks show!

Probably I will go outside with my friends to the nearby square, where fireworks are permitted to set off,see colorful fireworks there to celebrate 2017. I hope 2017 is a year of joy, peace and good health for you and your families.

@LadyDuck You are right Anna. We do celebrate new year twice :-) one is same to you, which is fixed on January 1st of every year. Usually,we will have a three-day break. As to the other new year,we call it Lunar Chinese New year or Spring Festival, just like that you referred,it is from January 27th,2017 to February 2nd,2017. In fact,it is also fixed, which usually comes by the 29th or 30th of the twelfth month of the Chinese lunar calendar... Aha,it seems you know something more about Chinese new year,it is truly the year of rooster, for 2018,it would be Dog Year, the ancient Chinese record/counted the year by 12 different animals.

I don't think I will really notice a second, now if it was a day, that would be different.

So how was your New Year Celebration with your husband ? Your table is very nicely prepared .
We only ate our " media noche " and just gazed from our porch the fireworks flying in the sky , done by some far neighbors.
The neighbors also didn't have fireworks this time , just like us .
