I got my mom a new record player for Christmas, since her old one is unwieldy and hasn't been played in years. She loved it, and the first record she played was "Carpenters", the 1971 album by the talented brother and sister duo the Carpenters. I've always loved their music and love singing along with Karen and Richard, but when I listened with my mom, I felt transported back in time. I could picture her as a girl sitting by her record player with her friends as they listened to this same album. It was almost like being there too.
My friends tell me I have an anachronistic personality. By that, I think they mean that I love things from the past--1940s movies, music from the Big Band all the way through the eighties hair bands, centuries old books--and more. They're right. To me, these things bear record of important memories and emotions that shouldn't be forgotten. The human race has endured many things in our collective history. That's one thing that gives me confidence that we will continue to do so in the future, in spite of our differences.
I hope you all have a wonderful New Year holiday and that God richly blesses your 2017.

I was like in 5th grade in 1971 and we had and listened to Carpenter records and music too. I remember my eldest sister's favorites were " We've only just Begun" and " Rainy days on Mondays ", its the kind of music that sticks to your head

You're right, those songs stay with you. The two songs you mentioned are two of the best, I think.
