Do you know the fruit "hawthorn"? Its clolour is red and its flavour is sour, its shape is red. Long time ago, I was a child, my father always made the snack Sugar Coated Hawthorns. First he stringed 5 to 6 hawthorn together, the he put the pan on the fire, then added into some water and red or white sugar in it, several minutes after the water boiled, he put hawthorn into the boiling sugar water, span it, quickly took out, put it on the glass, the hawthorn cooled quickly. We plug all the sugar coated hawthorns into the straws which were bundled on a stick. I and my father held the stick to the street, all the snacks would be sold up in 30 minute. The snack is sour and sweet. Time is fleeting, do you remember something which is always sweet and sour in your mind?

The birds eat the berries off the hawthorn hedge that borders our house on two sides. Never thought they were ok for people to eat...picture of what these bushes here look like above. Interesting.

@blueriver008 All the berries here are gone this season - lots of birds around.

Google - hawthorn
I attached a picture of what the very prickly hawthorn looks like, it is commonly used as a natural border between fields here, not many animals will push through this prickly hedgerow.

Hawthorn? Never heard of it until now. I guess it is just not typical in our place. But we have something sweet and sour like the hawthorn.
