Everyone at my house hold has habit of drinking milk before we go to bed. And i am doing it for years now, it is kind of a routine. It is said that milk helps in a good night sleep. Milk and other dairy products contain an amino acid (which help induce sleep) known as tryptophan. Milk also contains melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Do you drink milk before bed?

@shaynas I believe that didn't do much really. But there are many drinks that relax and also depends on each person, one of my friends if she drinks RedBull she falls asleep.

@Meramar Many years ago doctors believed that milk is necessary. Only young children need milk, not the adults. About the calcium for the bones, recent researches have discovered that there is no evidence that dairy is good for your bones. Milk is linked to prostate cancer, it’s full of saturated fat and is linked to heart disease and it aggravates irritable bowel. Get calcium from food, dark green leafy vegetables, sardines or salmon with the bones. It's much better.

@LadyDuck Green vegetables and sardines have got iron which is also necessary for the bones, even for children. That's right.

I am wondering why? In Spain, the doctors say that we have to drink milk. Children, because they are growing and women because of the calcium for the bones.

I do drink milk before bed. I'm not sure if milk contains melatonin, or if tryptophan is converted into both melatonin and serotonin (a happy neurotransmitter).

@MALUSE Well, I would prefer a vodka to a glass of milk. The milk would stay on my stomach for hours.

I don't have a habit to drink milk before go to bed. But you are right, it is helpful for sleeping. But I can fall asleep right away when my head hits the pillow I usually tell my son to drink milk before go to bed since I think children need it much more. Milk is always good for them.

Some nights I do. Last night I drunk some chocolate milk and it must have worked because before my boyfriend could get back from putting the cup up and using the bathroom I was already knocked out. It was about 10:30 pm and I didn't even remember falling asleep when he woke me up coming back to the room.
