What Do You Like About Where You Live?

I thought it might be interesting to learn a little about where our fellow myLotters live. Do you live in a big town or a city? What's the best thing about where you live? If someone visits, what sights or activities do you show them?
I live just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. I love it here and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I love the beautiful natural surroundings of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I also like that Asheville is a diverse small city where both hippie and hillbilly manage to get along. There's a lively art and music scene here too though I don't go out much anymore. When anyone visits, we usually visit the Biltmore Estate and scour the antique shops in town.
Would love to hear about your town.

@suziecat7 Thanks. I really enjoy reading about where people live too. Many of us have very different lives from each other.

What I like about here is that public transport is right outside my door or rather very near. I love travel on the light rail. I also like the views from here anywhere you are you can see the mountains.
I do like that the main drag is full of very interesting shops too.

You don't mention where you live but it sounds great. I haven't traveled by rail in many years but I used to enjoy it too.

WOW, breathtaking.
I wish I had something that grand to say about El Paso TX but all we have left are the Franklin Mountains. Almost all the desert area here has been destroyed to make way for suburbs. I don't know about you but I don't like suburbs.

I'm not a big suburb person myself. But the Franklin Mountains are beautiful (I looked them up).

Yes they are, but there's really not much to do except take pictures there, they have a museum which I am not impressed with and then there is a park of sorts but that to is not impressive @suziecat7
Now if you got to New Mexico, not too far from El Paso, there are tons of kool things to see and do.

I live in a very small town in eastern NC. We actually live out in the country and love it. We have some wooded land and a large pond where the grandkids enjoy fishing.
There's not much excitment here, but we are the Herring capital of the world. Although we can't even fish for Herring now and have to get it from SC for our annual Herring Festival!
We're not too far from the Atlantic ocean and all the beach towns. We take visitors to see the Lost Colony on Roanoke Island where a settlement mysteriously disappeared in 1590.

Much of eastern North Carolina is historic so much to show your visitors. Small town living is best, I think. It sounds wonderful.

@suziecat7 Thanks, I loved traveling through Asheville over the years when we were going to Arkansas to see in-laws. Most of the time we didn't have time to stop, but one year we toured the Biltmore...it is fabulous. I'd love to go back.

Hello there! New follower here. I found you via @jaboUK and her story about where she lives. I also live in NC. I am from Lillington, smack dab between Fayetteville and Raleigh. Better known as the Sandhills. One main attraction near my home is Raven Rock state park. I love living in central NC because I can get to the beach or to the mountains within a few hours. I am near larger cities, such as Raleigh and Fayetteville but I don't have to live right on top of them. I love coming to the mountains and seeing the sites.

It sounds like you have the best of both worlds - small town living but easy access to the city if you want. I'm pretty much in the same situation only much further from the coast.

@suziecat7 Yes, we do have the best of both worlds. We are very fortunate. Of course, the area grows by leaps and bounds year after year. I love Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway is heavenly to me. I have yet to go to the Biltmore Estate. When I have the time I don't have the money and when I have the money, I don't have the time. Hubby has gone before and we are saving up to make that one of our vacation destinations in the future.

I am on the opposite end of NC in Greenville but would rather be in Asheville LOL. Greenville is my hometown and has grown a lot, mostly due to the hospital and the university. That would be Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University of course. I used to love that there was always something going on in the area but these days I could go for a smaller town and some mountains. Or a beach LOL. Anything other than pavement.

It's good living in a university town though. There's usually a vibrant culture in town because of it. I do like the natural beauty here though it has grown quite a bit in the last 20 years.

New Englanders are a hardy bunch for sure. I can do without the city noise too. It's why I live in the country like you do. New Hampshire is a beautiful state though it's been many years since I was there. I went to college in Vermont. It was cold :))

We live in a very rural area . I was a city girl who just happened to end up in the country. We do have a home in West Virginia too that is in the city, so I enjoy my peace and quiet here in Mississippi and then get my dose of city life when we head up to our other home. Other then the peace and quiet here in Mississippi.....the lack of traffic and mostly empty roads is a big plus.

I moved from city living to country living a few years ago. I like the slower pace here and the quiet compared to the hectic pace and loud traffic.
