Head Banging

Hastings, England

My little boy is crazy, he's like a little Duracell bunny that doesn't run out of steam lol. When he goes to bed he continuously bangs his head. I mean he lays on his front, lifts the whole of his upper body and slams it back down onto his pillow. This is rhythmically done for about 10mins, up to 8 times a night. I don't know anyone who does this other than him. Do you know anyone? Do you do it yourself? Any advice? Will he ever grow out of it?

A physician should be consulted. This could be just a form of self-soothing, but always good to check. One person we knew that did head banging was slamming his head into the crib. It is obvious from what you are saying your son is not doing that.

I would definitely speak to your doctor about this. Does it do it any other time? I hope he outgrows it.

Ask your doctor about it. Since its on the pillow it might just be it feels good.. if it was the floor i would really be worried...

He currently sees a dr at the hospital. The dr is stumped but is prescribing him melatonin to help him sleep. It works for a couple of hours before it wears off and then he's banging again ??

@Dolphin55 That is a mystery and I hope the doctors find something to help him.
