Many people just don't get the idea of gender stereotyping, regional stereotyping, religional(new word by me..
) stereotyping, stereotyping on basis of looks, earnings and what not. We tend to put people in a particular category or group like segregating things into different boxes based on the their most prominent feature which again, completely depends upon us.
Then we tend to relate all other features good or bad found in that person to another person we met years ago. It may be of no harm all the time but sometimes whole institutions, communities, countries are and all the individuals in them suffer especially when bad notions are attached to their name. Everyone is unique yet so same and sometimes the habits of some people may be similar, doesn't mean they all think the same way.
And unless there is a possibility of hurting someone, people should be allowed to do what they love and enjoy, without having to worry about that they would be placed into a certain category or thrown out of another.
