NCAA Division I playoffs

In almost every single sport, from little league to the professional ranks, there has been a bona fide playoff system.....but not in NCAA Division I college football...Why? Is the sports revenue so massive that greed has made the rules? If that's the case, then I argue that a true playoff system would bring more interest to the sport..thus more money. The idea that a team from a "weaker" conference will never be able to make the "top 4" teams just reduces the fan base. The only interested parties are the fans that root for a few major conferences. This fact goes beyond a fan base. Coaches from smaller programs lose out on recruiting major high school phenoms which perpetuates the attention and strength of the major conferences. A simple 16-team format could be used pitting ALL conference Champions and 6 more wild card teams based on national polls.. This allows every conference champion to participate while keeping the polls relevant. There are 41 NCAA DI bowl games that have to be addressed. The playoff system will only encompass 15 of those bowls so 26 more are left. The NCAA can employ an NIT tournament type of elimination bowl schedule with strong teams that didn't make the final 16.

I went to a small private college in New Hampshire. You never see the Franklin Pierce Ravens in any of those bowls.

The players are literally lightweights as they cannot weigh more than 172 pounds. There are only 8 teams in that league.
