What ‘s in a Name?

@sunrisefan teased me on why I wasn’t named Conception , since December 09,my birthday , is just a day after the Feast of Immaculate Conception by the Catholics .
I told him , good thing my parents aren’t into religious names , which I find old fashioned and I won’t surely like it .
With our daughter , I chose her name . Hers is Dianne .
I was sitting at the lobby of a clinic waiting for my turn of pre-natal checkup , when I saw an ad of a cream . It is named Dianne . I pronounced it together with my married name and I liked it . Besides it’s a combination of my name Dina and my husband’s , Allan – thus Dian with an ne .
However , I gave birth on Christmas day . So , I added Joy to her name .
Sadly , our daughter doesn’t like the Joy in her name and uses only Dianne . She finds Joy , corny .
So, do you give names to your children that connotes anything ?

if my name is looked into a religious calendar, it would have been from a saint, St. Josaphat, but my late mother named me Ingrid because she told me my birthday was the same with an actress. in a baby book, Ingrid means daughter, which my siblings say i am my father's pet.

And it would have been Josephine as your name .
Oh , so ingrid means daughter . I learned what your name means . So you are your father's pet .
It's not good for parents to have a favorite son or daughter , but that cannot be controlled though .

@ridingbet I think your female sibling may have some hurt feeling about you being the pet of the father rather than just be fair to everyone .

I give the name of my youngest sister. I get it from two of my classmates that I admire and I like the nickname Annie for Annamarie so all four of us siblings have the same ending sound, Marie, Auie and Louie

Yes, that' an appropriate name indeed . So nice , Christine .
I think , had i not been scheduled for Dec. 29 but for 25 i could have thought of that name also to sound like Christ , who was also born on Christmas day .
But suddenly, at 6:30, i labored and gave birth later . So , i only thought of just adding Joy to Dianne to mean also Christmas - joy of the season .

@sunrisefan Oh yes , but think Magellan is Ferdinand , not Fernando . Well , they almost sound the same .
I think , there are a lot whose name or nickname is Annie .

I got the name of my eldest daughter from my three pupils. Then the twins from my name and a brand name of a denim pants. My youngest daughter's name was taken from a member of the production staff of one of the movies I watched. And my only son's name was taken from a scientist and a waltz composer..
My real name was Black Saturday " Sabado de Gloria". I don't really like it so i did not use it. I am using my baptismal name...

See, we all get names from those other people' name .
Gloria is common before , and i know why you don't really like it , like i also don't like my name with ñ , as in Diña . I like Dina only .
So , parents should choose names that are nice sounding , so their children will like it when they grow up .

Whatever name you decided to choose as a name for your daughter was the best suited and it was a sane decision on your part. DIANNE sounds good to me, nothing wrong about it.
I am of the view that whatever names we give to our children, should have some meaning and those names should be easy to pronounce and shout be short.

@SIMPLYD It is good to hear that your daughter likes her name.
Long names (when name of your city/native place and/or your father is added to your name) sound difficult to pronounce and could create confusion. Shorter the name is, better it is.

Yes , she likes Dianne too and we like it too . Though she finds the Joy after it, corny . But she has no choice but to use it always because it's her legal name .
I agree , the names should be meaningful though short and easy to pronounce . Some here have 3 names for their child , like Mark Christian Evans then the family name . Too long for the child to write in his her test paper .

Oh, I don't have kids yet. I also wonder what will be the names I will give my future kids if ever. All I want are short unique names but not that too complicated to spell and pronounce.

Patrick Neil , that 's beautiful too . See , we always pattern names after our favorites .
You know , we also thought that our daughter was a boy because then there was no ultrasound yet . So we prepared Dino Allan as name , the boy version of my name and the name of my husband .
And we have Dianne , if she's a girl .

Parents really want that their name be in their children's name . That way their names live even when they are gone . Usually the eldest would be named after a parents or the combination of their names.
Thank you . I like it too . My daughter likes it though without Joy. And she jokes that she lose because she only have one gift for Christmas and her birthday .

My mother told me she named me after her best friend who was courted by my father before her. LOL
I am not sure if there's truth about the courtship thing. Hihihihi!

It's funny that last night, while we were having dinner, my father said the name Resureccion(or whatever the spelling is) is not a beautiful name. My mother said he is bad because it's a religious name from the word resurrection. Then my father said, any name with Cion is not good for him. LOL! Then you mentioned Concepcion.

Here we make much of kid's name and puzzle our brains about kids' names. Many people fancy that kids' names would influence their future. However what I took into account of is how to make my kid's name easily read and avoid being a standing joke.

All of their middle names are after family and friends. Their first names are just names that we both liked.

We named our first born to contain all the letters of my father's name without actually giving him my father's name because my father hated his first name. Our second son has named for someone in the Bible, but we used a modern spelling of the name rather than the Biblical one.

That is so nice .
Actually here , that's what is being followed by parents . They make a modern twist by having it in a modern spelling .
So , what is the name of your second son , with a modern spelling , if i may know because i was intrigued .

That's usually the case indeed . Though for some parents here they combine their names and come up with a new name and others name them after their grandparents or after the saints whose feast day falls on the birthday of the child.
But whatever it is , we chose what is beautiful in our ears .

My name is a combination of my parents' plus my grandmom's name. So it sounded a little weird though i get to love it later on as i grew older. I have grown to appreciate the uniqueness of my name and that it is easier to get govenrment issued IDs and passports.

Wow , really . So it must be a long name .
So , when it comes to getting NBI clearance the probability of having someone with the same name as yours is nil .
