“Fast Break” is another disco era comedy starring Gabe Kaplan who was then a big TV star from “Welcome Back Cotter.” Kaplan plays a basketball fanatic who manages a New York deli. He wants to be a coach and sends out resumes. An obscure small Nevada college offer him the opportunity to build a team from scratch and the job is permanent if he beats the school rival. The comedy is derived from the assembled team. He starts with his pickup game hustler buddy (NY Knick great Bernard King) and basically puts together a semi-pro team. Former UCLA star Mike Warren plays a guy needing out of New York for getting a girl in trouble. The movie produced the hit song “With You I’m Born Again” by Billy Preston and Syreeta which reached #4 on Billboard.

Can't think of many basketball movies except Spacejam which was garbage - individual movie basketball scenes stand out, Alien Ressurection, Teen Wolf, Little Nicky, etc
