Smokeless Day for Hubby!

United States
January 12, 2017 5:01am CST
Yesterday was a rough day for my husband. He had his last cigarette at 5:30. He had sent a message to inform me that he had to work later and the time he had his last cigarette and that he was a bear. Well, the bear had calmed down before he got home. He didn't cave in and have a cigarette. He is still using chew, but that is another habit that he will have to eventually kick. Hopefully once the cravings for smoke has gone the wayside, he will work on kicking the smokeless. Proud of him. Said he would do it and I had my doubts, but he is moving forward!

That's wonderful news. I hope he gets stronger at kicking the habit. When we are determined at doing something, nothing is impossible.

He has set his mind to doing this. It is a rough habit to quit.

@toniganzon You are very lucky. I have many family members and friends who struggle with it.

@ElusiveButterfly Yeah, I have seen some people having difficulty quitting. I had no problem in quitting that habit. It was like I never smoked at all.

Good luck with this terrible habit. I quit a good while back but it is not easy by any means.

When I quit 39 years ago, I quit cold turkey. I really didn't smoke all that much so it wasn't a big deal. Of course I still wanted a ciggy after dinner.

That is something I need to do myself. I have been trying to put them down for good. I really want to. Maybe I will give it another try today.

As I told him, there is no better time than the present. He had to be ready to do it.

@inertia4 he finds the cravings to be strong in the morning. That is when he is alone with his thoughts, before work. I don't get up with him when he is getting ready for work. Way to early for me at 4:30!

@ElusiveButterfly I totally agree. I need to quit myself. It is hard though. I am sure your husband understand that.

It takes a lot of willpower and support from those around them.

He will be so happy he quit the weed. Your doctor can give you some help that is probably worth the price of the prescription. I quit years ago and it was not easy but ....

My hubby said that one day he would do it. I would like to think that my crying over the commercial with the "Last Dance" helped to motivate him.

I wish him well. You'll have to be on guard for the times that he would go out to smoke, like after a meal, and try to suggest something else to do, go for a walk or something. I found the times of day, and breaking the habits like the smoke now or then to be the worst.

This must be so difficult for smokers. Luckily I never took up smoking so didn't have to give it up.

Kudos to you! I buckled to peer pressure in my teens. I didn't smoke a lot, perhaps 1 or 2 a day and not every day. Then as an adult I smoked more, but still not a lot. A pack would last me a week!

@JudyEv I can't stand to walk through/by a smokers path as they puff away. Gags me so badly.

@ElusiveButterfly I love standing next to a smoker and 'passive smoking' so it's a good thing I didn't get hooked or I might have had a hard time giving up.

They have to be ready to do it on their own. I have found that they can't be pushed or encouraged to do it unless they are ready.

It is a tough thing to do, but so many of us have done it and know what he is dealing with! It is certainly something you have to do for yourself.
