Two For the Price of One

Yesterday, I was graced with another amazing and beautiful sunset, but what really tickled my fancy was seeing the beautiful full moon rise above the horizon to the east. The moon always seems to be magnified larger than life when it is first rising into the night sky, and yesterday evening was no exception! I had timed my evening walk just perfectly so that as I was heading back home I was facing toward the rising moon! Just the sight of it was very hypnotizing! The added bonus was early this morning when I left for work. The sun had not peaked over the horizon yet to begin its ascent into the sky, but yet the pre-dawn sky was awash in light. It was the full moon off in the west, just getting ready to set for the day. I can't remember the last time in my life that I was able to watch a full moon rise, and then see that same full moon set! It was quite a treat, and watching the moon slowly disappear below the western horizon was just as magical as watching it appear in the eastern horizon the evening before! Have you ever watched a moonrise and moonset in the same period? Or, have you ever watched a sunrise and sunset in the same day? It's like getting two great views for the price of one!

I thought I saw a full moon yesterday though :) I was starring at the moon on the way home from the mall. It was already 7pm (dark out when I saw it, it was beautiful out)

There is something about a full moon that just completely mesmerizes me, it's almost like it's hypnotic or something! One of my earliest childhood memories was when our family was on a long car trip, and I remember looking out the car window the entire trip watching the full moon "follow" us. I think I was only like two or three years old at the time, but that memory is still as vivid to me now as the night it happened!

@infatuatedbby I never can get good pictures of the moon with my phone. The full moon looks so huge to the human eye, but looks like a little dot in the sky when you take a photo of it. I wish cameras could capture exactly what our eyes see!

I don't think I have. I did notice the beautiful moon last night and can see it low on the horizon right now. It's very, very low.

It probably looks amazing to you coming up over the intracoastal waterway! I remember when I lived down there I would often go to the Boynton Beach inlet and sit on the beach and watch the moon rise!

@DianneN Although I'm sure you still get some pretty amazing views in Connecticut!

@moffittjc I must admit, it's much prettier over the water here than in Connecticut behind the trees!

That is awesome that you got to see both! I don't think I have seen that actually in the same day.

@LovingMyBabies That is so true! A lot of times when I feel overwhelmed, I can just take a walk in a local park or on a nature trail, and it reminds me that God is all around me, and He is still in control. It sort of puts everything into perspective!

I can't say that it's something I've ever seen before, so it was pretty neat to me. I find joy in the simplest things! haha

I've had many opportunities when camping to watch the sunrise and then set, and you're right, it's a magnificent experience. Last night's full moon was something else here. It was playing peek-a-boo through they scudding clouds. I took my camera and tripod outside and took about two dozen pictures. I kept 5. I'll be posting one tonight before I head off to bed.

@moffittjc The limitations of my phone camera were why I finally decided to ask Santa for a DSLR a couple Christmases ago.

Can't wait to see how the moon photo turned out! I took about a dozen or so with my smartphone the other night, and ended up deleting all of them, because I just couldn't somehow capture the grand magnitude of what I was seeing with my eyes.

I have done that but not on purpose, the sun rises in the front of my house and sets in the back, there are lots of windows on those two sides of the house, Same for the moon. While camping they rise and set on the mountain behind us and the mountain across the river...The days are shorter there because of the mountains...

My parents used to own about 50 acres of mountaintop property in Colorado, on a very high peak. We'd spend many summers out there, and one thing that always amazed me was that the days were always longer because we were so high up in the mountains! We could see the sunrise start to happen around 5:00am in the morning, and we could always count on having sunlight until about 10:00pm each night! All just from being so high up in the mountains!

@PainsOnSlate Colorado is a beautiful state, and I miss being there! Some of my best memories are from my times there with my family as a kid.

What a treat that was. I have witnessed that, but it has been a while. In winter there are few opportunities with all our clouds and rain.

That's awesome that you witnessed this as well, even if it has been a while. In fact, I think you are the only other person besides me on myLot who has witnessed a moonrise and moonset in the same night.

I am just so in love with full moons, that for me to see the same moon rising and setting was just a dream come true. I guess you could call me a moon geek! haha

I never thought about looking at webcams across the world to witness events like this! What a great idea! There are about 3-4 webcams scattered across the country that I check in on from time to time, but they are all monitoring Bald Eagle nests. I am fascinated by these magnificent birds, and right now many of them have hatchlings in their nests!

If you ever get the chance to, it's a beautiful experience. And the light of the moon is much easier on the eyes to look at than the blazing sun! haha

I did see the full moon. My grandmother loved looking at the moon. I never seen the sunset and sunrise in one day.

What a lovely picture you're painted here. I guess I've seen sunsets and sunrises on the same day but I haven't taken a great deal of notice! I've probably missed out quite a bit. :)
