Baking your own birthday cake?

A work colleague of the mother in law said that she baked her own birthday cake, how sad is that? even if her husband of almost 19 years can not bake, make an effort the one time, or buy one!
The last birthday cake I baked was for the wife, it was simple but effective, an ice truck killer cake (from Dexter)
What was the last cake you baked and would you ever bake your own birthday cake?

Perhaps she prefers her own cakes?
Could be her husband gets her a gift? Or takes her out to eat instead.

@infatuatedbby Maybe, I just think it's the principal, like organizing your own birthday party?

@JudyEv Fair enough, I just think it's a bit mean that's all.

I have baked my own cake, but since we were hosting a big party and not just for my birthday, but for The Doctor. I baked it, decorated it and enjoyed it very much. I also helped decorate the cookies and made several other of the dishes, drinks, and the like for the party.
