Do you forgive and forget?

I can honestly say that I am not a very forgiving person, I know that I probably should be, but I am not. I don't really do second chances, and if I am totally honest it doesn't take that much for me to cut you out of my life. How about you? Do you forgive and forget?

@Clairelouiser A lot of people ask forgiveness all the time but they don't keep their word.

I do. I give people many chances. When i am angry, i say the things and that's it, i don't carry it further with me.

@Clairelouiser I don't know. Some times people treat it as my weakness.

That must be nice to be able to let go.

I can forgive but in extreme cases. Only when it is a friend of mine but a very close one and yet it depends on what they did. However forgetting is not an option. You can always forgive someone but you never know if they will go on and do it again. If it is someone i hardly know or dont care about then i have no problem in not forgiving and i definitly dont forget at all.

@Clairelouiser The only way is to try and rebuild the trust but you really need to work hard for it or there is no point.

Exactly, you can't trust someone again once they have broken that trust.

That's good, it requires strength to stand up to people which you obviously have.

@Clairelouiser yes...and the truth is....at the start you are always forgiving and forgetting...but you get a experience of people with time and you understand that forgiving isnt an option anymore...so with time you become that way

You don't have to, sometimes you have to put yourself first.

I think I am kind of on the fence about this one. I have cut people out of my life like it was nothing, but I have also held on to to friends I maybe shouldn't have for way longer than necessary. I guess, for me at least, it all depends on how strong a friendship is before things start to get rough.

It's hard to know what to do when you are so close to someone sometimes.

forget? no. forgiveness depends on what they did in the first place.

I don't forgive and forget very well either - not that I have much to forgive and forget.

No. Some things are inexcusable and to forgive and forget is to enable such behavior. It sends the lesson you can get away with it.

I feel exactly the same way, people will never stop unless they are sent a clear message that this behaviour is not acceptable.
