Have you ever been in a clinical research study?

I have been in a few of these studies and it is a good way to make some extra cash. Also, you get meds for free if you have a condition that needs treated. Sometimes, they are just looking for healthy subjects to compare sick and healthy people to get a baseline. I am basically healthy..but I do look for trials I am elgible for. Generally, they just take a few hours a month and pay well. My cholesterol is a little high so I was in one for that one time. I have made a few thousand dollars from being a clinical research subject. It is easy money as far as I am concerned.

I haven't done it--it always makes me a little nervous that I might have some sort of complication. Doesn't that make you nervous?

Not really, and it doesn't always involve taking medication. One time I just had an MRI done to look at my knees. All the risks are explained to you if you are involved in a study..and usually they are pretty minimal, if it was something that I thought was harmful, I wouldn't do it.

@snowy22315 - Oh, that's not so bad. How do you find out about them?

I think it is, but it isn't always ideal.

@snowy22315 I shouldn't have said that really. It would be a serious business if you were ill with a disease and participating in these sorts of trials.

@JudyEv Well sometimes being in an experimental trial may be the best thing if there are no other treatments.

I was in a depression study a few years ago but I seem to screen out of everything. I think it's my age, I'm 62, and they are probably interested in studying younger subjects that have the conditions that I do.

Sometimes you have to look for things targeted to your age group.

I never have and am not sure I would do it. Like others, I fear there would be some side effects.

Oh wow. No I have never been in one and I wasn't really aware of them. I have heard about them but never really looked into them or what is involved. That is a decent about of money for participating in a study.

yes, I am not too far from a university that does a great deal of medical research. Actually, since school is starting up again. I think I will look today to see what they are recruiting for.

@snowy22315 Very interesting. You will have to let us know what you find out or if you decide to participate in any of them.

I have never been in any but it is something that has always interested me. I have worked in the healthcare field for the past 4 years and I do enjoy pretty much anything medicine related. plus that extra money sounds pretty appealing as well!
