What are some "home remedies" that actually work?

I've heard a cup of black coffee helps with troubled breathing due to some substances in the coffee, hell I am not scientist so I can't really explain how it works, but it has worked for me plenty of times. Also cup of coffee works for headache too. (well can't personally confirm this one too) Another one that I can confirm, if you have sore throat, make gargle with salt water never fails. Third one I have heard is that if your mosquito bites start itching, a hot spoon on it should do the trick to stop them itching. Glass of milk with spoon of honey should make your sleeping easier or how I like to say it, "cure insomnia" So, what are your home remedies/tricks you use myLot for curing illness, temporary pain and stuff?

I use this gargle with salt water for sore throat every time. And also a massage with crushed garlic and oil helps me in common cold. And celery for digestive issues.
