Double Nationality

I was born in America which makes me an American. In 2001 i came to the Azores with my parents to live here. They are naturally Portuguese. Since i was only 9 i had the option to get double nationality and i did so. It is a big help in some ways. If i ever want to go back to America all i need to do is get my American passport renewed and hope on a plane. I have all the documentation. Another thing about this is that due to the fact that my mother has the same double nationality, if i choose to have a child i can get them with both also. There are a bit of rules and stuff but i could get it. This would be perfect mostly because it opens a whole new world for their future. Do you have only one nationality?

I hope he gets to. If he is a festive person then the best time to come (at least to my island) is the ending of june or start of august where you can see our bigger feasts.

@paigea IT does, summer here is very hot and because we have alot of humidity here, it seems like it is hotter. Until around November we usually have very good weather. Ou tropical starms are usually from February-June.

@Absinto That is good to know, though we try to travel when it is not summer. But it does not get so hot in the Azores? Am I right?

One nationality. American. Born here. But my mother is a naturalized American citizen. I don't think I could get a dual citizenship from her country of origin, never having lived there, but it would be nice.

I have only one nationality (British) but I'd quite like to have more. My brother has both an American and a British passport (he was born in Britain but married an American and is naturalised American) and two of his children. I think, are eligible for three nationalities - British, American and Australian. I wonder when the time will come that it won't matter what country you were born in or what culture or language you grew up with. Aren't we all, ultimately, "African"?

Yes it is. I dont have complications entering the USA. If i ever get tired of where i live i can just get my documents and go back to America and live their with no paperwork to be done since i am an american. It helps because it gives you a simple option without having to think of all the work that would need to be done just to get legal in a diferent country.

That would be a major step for humanity but i doubt it would happen. People use nationality as an excuse for war because of their own beliefs. It would be good uniting all as one but let's face it. Until mankind gets their minds on the fact that everyone is a person and is the same this will all be almost impossible.

I am proud of both. I would pick just one even if they made me. I love having both and having the option to have to diferent nationalities and cultures.

I was born in England and so I have a British passport. My ex husband was born in Australia and his mum was Irish. Therefore we has an Irish passport as well. He was able to live in England with me for as long as he liked due to his Irish passport. I fancy visiting the Azores one day. It looks very beautiful and peaceful there.
