What Exactly Are People Protesting?

There are a lot of protests going on today. I don't know exactly what they're protesting. I think they're protesting because someone told them that Trump was going to turn the US into Nazi Germany 2.0? Yeah. Remember when people said the exact same thing about Obama in 2008? (If you don't, I'm including a link to a story where an elected official claimed Obama was going to organize his own Gestapo [and a quick aside to correct something in the article: Hitler was never "elected." He was appointed chancellor of Germany in 1933 by President von Hindenburg.].) I mentioned as a reply to another discussion that most of the 24/7 news channels and their so-called "expert" guests -- not to mention the talk show hosts -- would go out of business if we learned to accept what's real instead of being coerced into fretting over "what might happen." I might win the lottery tonight. I'm not going to run to an RV dealership and buy a $500,000 motor home based on that, however. (In fact, try going to a bank and getting a loan secured with the claim that you might win the lottery next week.) It's sad that it's become much easier to have people believe a lie than the truth. Oh, well. I hope they enjoy their protests. It's their Constitutionally-guaranteed right to do so. I'll spend the afternoon in a local park, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather, not worrying about what the buffoons (by that, I mean the politicians) in Washington are doing. Here's the 2008 article about how we were going to be saying "Heil Obama" on January 20, 2009. Didn't happen then, isn't happening now.
The Secret Service is blaming Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's harsh attacks on Barack Obama in the final weeks of the campaign for triggering a dramatic spike in death threats against the future president -- but that revelation hasn't

Today's protests were against Trump's proclivities for demeaning women and grabbing them in their private areas against their will. They were also protesting against Trump outlawing abortion and instituting criminal penalties for women who get abortions, even though he isn't planning to do either, despite his ill chosen words during the campaign. Also included among the protestors were those seeking to close the salary gap between men and women who have the same education, do the same job, and have the same experience, but the woman makes less money. A lot of ridicule has been heaped on today's protests due to the pussyhats many of the protestors were wearing, pink knit hats with cat's ears representing a certain part of the female anatomy that Trump's use the crude word for a decade ago offended so many. Ironically, the First Lady was so offended to learn Trump had ever uttered the word that she took her daughters to a rap concert where the word was used repeatedly. Hitler came into power when the NAZI party won 33% of the seats in the Assembly, far more than any other party, and as their leader, Hitler was the leading legislator, which resulted in his being named chancellor, much the same way the leading minister of the majority party in a parliamentary system becomes the Prime Minister.

Thanks for a clear and rational explanation in detail. I have friends on both sides of the women's issues, and also find it amusing that just like the man they are protesting, these people made themselves the center of attention over the same slang word.

People are protesting a president who is sexist, egotistical, racist and a liar. That's just the beginning.

Sorry to hear you have back pain. Perhaps this can help you @Dalijinder
Don't suffer with lower back pain. WebMD shows you ways to get back pain relief, including back pain medication, lifestyle changes, and back pain surgery.

American society probably could reach its balance and its relax and will take its everyday life in its hands in the new situation.

You are so correct. Most people in this country worry themselves sick over "what might happen" and miss the beauty of now. I discovered mindfulness meditation a few months ago and it has changed my life.

I believe it to be the case that the case will be filed if the case is not heard in the first instance. :)

Another day, another complaint. Although we don't disagree with those protesting, we do know that some have no idea what is happening. These ones are just along for the ride it would seem. Glad the voices can be heard and hope something wonderful happens.

People are never happy with anything they have or don't have when it comes to politics and there will always be some kind of protests. I looked to see how the inaugural ball went and there is so much info and so many photos that I took one look and decided I didn't need to know anything after all

I don't bother with protests, whether it's protests about criminals dying in police custody, protests about how we elected an idiot, protests against free speech, etc. I'd rather play my guitar.

I'm a bit bemused by it all. I don't really know what they're protesting about either.
