Proud to Be Part of the Womens March in California

The Women's Marches in Southern California were incredible. They estimate that 750,000 women and men showed up at the March in Los Angeles. I live in Orange County, the smallest county in California, where at least three marches were held ... in Santa Ana, San Clemente and Laguna Beach. They estimate that at least 16,000 people showed up to those three marches. In addition to the people in the Laguna Beach March, cars drove by continually honking and waving in support ... including a fire engine, UPS truck, cement truck and hundreds of cars, even a couple of Ferraris. We had a live band and several speakers, such as a doctor who talked about how awful it will be if Obamacare is eliminated without a replacement, and a teacher who talked about how terrible it will be if the public schools have some of their money diverted to private schools. We also had environmentalists, a man marching in support of Standing Rock, people supporting LGBT rights, and many others. The photo above shows me, along with five of my friends, at the start of the Women's March. I ran into so many people I knew, it was like a giant block party. I'll post more photos when I respond to comments. I haven't had this much fun since the 1960s.

Wow and want to see all the people talk smack about women protesting. Of course you knew they would show us how to do it right. Maybe we need a new rule. Only women are allowed to protest or at least out number the men 2 to 1 so they do not get stupid. Good for you guys. You go girl.

@DeborahDiane You should be, well done and glad to see maybe some good can come out of what seems to be an overly corrupt world.

I'm glad the marches were successful and received lots of local support. The issues you mentioned need to be kept front and center and Congress needs to know how much people care about them, and how many people care about them. I believe it is Congress that needs to be influenced because I don't believe The Exalted Orange One will be swayed by anything anyone says or does. He's too confident in his own infallibility.

@DWDavis - I just wrote a follow-up article which explains how people can contact Congress, which organizations they can follow on Social Media and more. We can't let the enthusiasm die out.

@JudyEv - The numbers were staggering. Did you know that researchers in Antarctica also held a March? Every continent in the world had Women's Marches. The election of Trump brought something out in women internationally.

@JudyEv - Yes, there was Marches in Australia, too. They showed them on the news here. I don't think they were as large as the ones here, but they did happen.

I am glad these marches seem to have remained peaceful as intended. I was a bit worried. I am sure it felt good to be among so many supporters.

@paigea - Yes, it was wonderful to see peaceful marches. I have not heard of any negative incidents anywhere in the world. Isn't that amazing? I'm attaching another photo from the Laguna Beach March.

@PatZAnthony - I was amazed that so many different people participated in the marches today ... and Trump tried to keep the National Park Service from posting pictures of how much larger the Women's March was than the crowd at his inauguration!

Women have marched also here in Switzerland, they met in Geneva, not a big lot, they were about 2,000, but if you consider how small is Switzerland it was a success.

I had to laugh at your line that you "haven't had this much fun since the 60's". The irony is that I think a lot of people woke up to a changed view of the world after election day...with fear of rolling everyone's (women, minorities) rights back at least 50 years. Hopefully women will realize that they are able to organize, participate and be counted and remember to VOTE and speak out. Men also realized I am sure that there is an erratic and seething minority of their own gender that if given the chance will make them look bad and disrespect their mothers, daughters and wives. Through unity the hateful minority will be kept in check and I trust the world will be set back in the right direction.

@desertdawg - I agree that the election has unified a number of different groups of Progressives. I plan to stay active and really encourage people to vote in the mid-term elections in two years. If we could just flip the House of Representatives, that would make a big difference.

@desertdawg - I agree that we have no room for complacency and women need to stick together and move forward. We cannot relax, or our rights will be taken away.
