The gentleman who served me a cup of coffee now was Albert, whenever I see a name plate Albert I always remember the Lithuanian taxi driver. Let me share that story over this coffee .
When I reach a country for the first time, no matter how prepared I am , there is a bit of confusion and tension always, and if the country has less number of English speakers it becomes even worse.
My trip to Vilnius was a short one, just stayed for 3 days. On the last day I went to the outskirts of Vilnius exploring a bit of country life. On way back I had a hard time getting a taxi to the airport, at the end I somehow managed to get one after a long wait
Somehow I managed to convey the driver I need to rush to the airport to catch my flight. My driver has shown me a thumbs up and after a while I noticed that car is off the main highway and in a completely different route from the one I came. Anxiety starts building inside me. After sometime the car has gone inside the woods in dirt tracks. I started to panic and felt completely helpless.
Nothing much to do in this lonely woods , I resigned and sat there hoping for the best . Suddenly I see from nowhere my taxi driver has managed to come out of the woods and join the main highway that leads to the airport that I am familiar with.
I felt sorry for all the bad things that went through my mind about this driver. When reached at the airport he showed me in my map what he did to cut short the route. I thanked him for his service, a journey I would never forget. He was Albert ,my Lithuanian taxi driver.
