My gallbladder is "Struggling and inflamed."

Perth, Australia

Not too long ago I did a post saying that I had a gallstone because the dude who did the ultrasound on me told me so. I went to the doctors today to get the results ( even though I already knew ) but the doctor I was meant to see was not there for she was ill. Which....I wasn't informed about before I left home but alright. A nurse spoke to me instead. She took me to a private room and long story short said that there could be gallstones but what apparently shows on my scans is that my gallbladder is "struggling and inflamed." Meaning I have Acute Cholecystitis and that I HAVE to see the doctor ( who originally referred me to get the ultrasound ) this Friday to discuss what to do next for my gallbladder has reached the point where something has to be done. I have a question though....if my gallbladder has reached a serious point where it's "struggling and inflamed"....why the hell wasn't I informed by the doctor earlier? He had my scans the day after I had my ultrasound done so um....yeah. Like don't worry about it or anything Doc. Not like it hurts like a mother b*tch from time to time. That's ok.

You are so right, the doctor should have called you immediately. I cannot believe how careless he is.

@LadyDuck Apparently the doctor was ill and didn't have the common sense to have another doctor to attend to the patient or even inform the patient about all this.

@enlightenedpsych2 I had a bad episode myself as a child. I take no risk either now. I almost lost my kidneys.

Uhm... I am very sorry this is happening to you, Dani. I do hope everything works out well for you! I'd also like to suggest something you may not have thought about.... Did the nurse tell you how long the doctor had been ill? It is possible your doctor fell ill before receiving your ultrasound, maybe? Of course, IDK, but it is possible. Uhhh... the person who did your ultrasound shouldn't have told you anything. That he did could be called into question by your doctor. That tech is not a doctor, so isn't supposed to say what it looks like or what it might be. And yes, I do think you should tell the doctor that he told you, too. (He might have gotten your prognosis correct with your scan, but what if he doesn't with someone else? If they believe him and he's wrong, he could cause someone some severe stress before the doctor can correct what they were told by the tech!) I'm hoping your doctor did see the scan and told the nurse what to say to you... If not, then the nurse could be mistaken, too. Again, I hope everything works out for you! Good luck!

@VivaLaDani13 Yes, that makes sense... I see.... I prefer a woman doctor, too. Usually, they pay more and better attention to you than a male doctor will, plus it is easier to explain to a woman doctor what symptoms you are having without being embarrassed. (At least for me, it is.) If your doctor referred you to someone else, then s/he (the original doctor) is not supposed to tell you what it looks like or may be since whatever is going on is beyond their skill. That is up to the new doctor. Your original doctor could get in trouble (ethically) for interfering with the new doctor's patient, even if you were his/her patient first. (Does this make sense now that I have explained how the doctors work?) I am always happy to help you in whatever way I can. Let me (us) know how things go, please. I am doing okay. Still having allergic reactions. Had a good one yesterday. Had to call in to work, since I couldn't see to drive.

@DaddyEvil Thank you very much! I really appreciate that! The doctor who was meant to see me that day was actually a different doctor. When I rang to make an appointment that day, I made it with someone else. Who was a woman doctor because I prefer a woman rather than a man. And that woman doctor was the one who was ill. But as for the doctor who referred me and got my ultrasound scans, he was still there. He was working that day. Hope that makes sense lol Thank you very much for answering. Hope you're doing well! Good to hear from you. :)

That is bad news indeed...but ...I would not take the nurse's word...though I would accept some medication for that inflammation.

@vandana7 Doctor has suggested possible surgery to remove the gall bladder before the ultrasound. Now tomorrow she will find out for real.

Just another valid reason I HATE doctors. Somehow they think they can simply put people on hold until they are good and ready to deal with them .... what good does that do? Just hope you'll get your situation resolved in short order, I haven't a clue how that must hurt but I do know I hate pain.

This is one of the things I hate about doctors . . . but that's another story. I agree, if the ultrasound guy could tell you right there and then, the doctor should have been able to do the same once he knew. I can understand they have a tight schedule and a million others to attend to and blah blah blah . . . but something serious to me means it should be urgent news . . . it would have only been right to let you know right away .

@much2say Really sorry for my late reply here! I understand where you are coming from. I admire doctors a lot but some are just .... I feel they are in the wrong career. May have knowledge of medical stuff but they lack other things doctors should have.

That is not too professional not to tell you right off. I will tell you, that when I was a kid back in the 1970s, my Mom had gall stones and lots of pain and had to have her gall bladder taken out. She is still alive today, in her 70s and does just fine without it.

Gallbladder pain is a common occurrence in the right upper abdomen. It may be caused by gallstones, cholecystitis and other rare diseases.

@Drosophila I am still considering making a complaint but not just due to the whole gallbladder thing. But more for a recent thing. I was sick and was hardly checked out and got told it was a bacterial infection. When I finally saw my good doctor, it turned out I had Bronchitis! They are not good at this place. I read reviews on it recently and many are not happy with the doctors there.

@Drosophila I suggested that as soon as I found out. They weren't even considering the possibility of gallstones until a nurse clued them in. They kept sending her away saying its anxiety nothing else.
