National holidays

Tomorrow is Republic Day of our country. It is a national holiday. This means most of people are off work and spending time with family and friends. Whenever a national holiday comes up there is patriotism all around. The media like newspaper, television and also the mobile phones are smeared with patriotic messages. It is a good feeling but why is it for one day and not for the whole year or life, is what I wonder. Why should anyone praise the country only when some sportsperson wins or soldiers defend the nation? The holidays are no better as people use it as an excuse to relax than to show some respect to the nation baring the school kids and some residential societies. How do you all celebrate?

I agree that we should be proud of our country at all times and not just on special occasions. I'm not too keen on Mother's Day for the same reason. We should be good to our mothers at all times not just on a particular day.

Actually I wonder why there is a particular day to celebrate which one can celebrate the whole year like national holidays, Mother's Day or Father's Day. If you love your people or country you should not wait for that day to show it.

@radhruv I think you are right but I suppose having a special day brings it to people's attention more.
