A lie about Christmas decorations

Over the past few years my boyfriend told me a particular story a few different ways that lead me to believe it is entirely made up. The first two times he told it to me a few years ago was that he bought a Christmas decoration that had circle frames for pictures and under it said ho ho ho. He said he printed out really awful photos of three people who worked at the bar he frequented and put them in the ho ho ho frame and hung it on a peg board in the bar. He said it took them awhile to notice it and they laughed and called him names. More recently he told me he thought it and never actually did it. Then even more recently he told me how he bought this ho ho ho picture frame decorations for his parents and put his sisters faces in it. He said his dad loved it and proudly displayed it each year and it wasn't until recently one the sisters figured out it had a hidden meaning. So what so you think? Did the last story really happen or did he make it all up like the other one. I think it is entirely made up and I wonder why he would even make it up in the first place and pretend it happened. Like what exactly was the point?

I would think it's made up, too. I'm not sure why he would lie, like that.... a family friend of ours was like that too. He used to tell a story about a trip to a restaurant. At this restaurant the wait staff would throw the dinner rolls to the dinners. He fessed up. Hadn't been there. Why would he lie?

See I just do not understand why people make up stories like that. If we run out of things to say we just don't have to talk. I'd rather sit with someone quiet then have them make up lies.

Exactly I can't understand why he would make up something so unimportant. I remember after we broke up I asked his ex what he was like and I asked if he lied about things and she said he did lie all the time about really dumb things but not usually big or important things. I think this is what she meant.

@Tina30219 His son makes up stories all the time to but I spot him making them easier. One time he told me he never knew his dad when he was little that when he was a few years old he asked his mother who his dad was and she told him and then they met. It was not even close to the truth as the mom and dad lived together until he was a few years old and he raised him while the mother was out at bars. Then when they split up he had him every other weekend once he started going to school.
