I had good expectations for the new year, but unfortunately it did not begin in the best way. Today is the Chinese New Year (the year of the Rooster), so I thought that this is a good occasion to celebrate a new "New Year" and see if we have more luck. I am going to make a Chinese dinner: fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, coconut bars. The table is set, the food is almost ready, I cross my fingers. Are you going to celebrate something this evening?

I believe that in the Vancouver area they have a big celebration, there is an important China town there. I hope that this new start will be more lucky.

I have nothing particular to celebrate today, but I find that it is a very original idea to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I have never been good with wooden sticks, can I have a fork?

@LadyDuck Sure, I get three grains at a time only, so I have time to appreciate the rice.

Yes you can have a fork and I wonder if I would also use a fork because eating rice with the sticks is a very difficult matter.

I have been to two Chinese New Year celebrations with the owners of a local Chinese restaurant. The menu was a bit off what you would see served in the restaurant. I sampled foods that I have never had before. It was great. My children eyed the food as if it were going to bite them. LOL.

The Philippines celebrates the Chinese lunar New Year so it's a none working holiday here. I just got a red envelope ( money inside) from a Chinese friend in wechat phone app, we have traditional sticky rice cake that is traditional holiday food of Filipino Chinese.( mainland Chinese serve dumplings for New year)

I was sure you were going to celebrate. I wanted to make dumplings, but I have been pretty sick for several days and I missed several ingredients. I choose to make something more simple with the ingredients I have in the fridge.

@LadyDuck oh those are great dishes you prepared, these are also some of my favorite Chinese food. Sorry you are not feeling well, If I am right I think its congee or rice porridge that's a big no no to serve on Chinese New Year ( they associate it with poverty).

@LadyDuck We have a fairly decent one, very small, about 30 mins. away in the next county. It is always cold in there too and since it's cold today going there wouldn't be fun for both reasons.

The fireworks were banned even for the New Year Eve here, now it would even be more dangerous, it's no more dry, but the temperature is going up and there is the risk of avalanches.

I shared already. The year started with a tech problem, our router stopped working and we had to replace it. A few day later I got the flu and I have been sick for a couple of weeks. This is why I want to restart.

I have seen that in Manila it is celebrated and your President hopes that it will be celebrated more in the future years. Binondo district in Manila, established in 1594, is considered the world's oldest Chinatown.

When we lived in the south of France, there was an important Asian community there and they celebrated the Chinese New Year. With a friend, we used to go to celebrate in a small Chinese restaurant, it was a real one, not an American buffet. The food was delicious and I like to keep the traditions.
