i love listening to music.Well, who doesn't?So,the other day i was listening to this old song from the 90s of my favorite composer. What wonderful music. I had goosebumps by the time the song ended. I loved the moment. Admired his creativity.Thanked him for creating something so divine. Just then a thought crossed my mind and i thought ,why not share it . So, here it is..... You listen to a song(lets call it song A). You are carried away to some faraway place. you admire the creativity of the composer. you shower praises on him. you feel victorious when he wins acclaims and awards. And then another day..... You get to listen to another song(lets call it song B) for the first time. you realise you have heard it before. And then you remember ...It sounds similar to your favorite song A. you listen to it again and again..and again you refuse to believe that your composer whom you have placed on a pedestal can steal. you check the release dates of both songs song A 2006 song B 1996 You feel devastated. Cheated. I had this same feeling when i realised that the song which i had cherished so much was a copy from an old korean song. i felt that the composer should be punished . Did you ever experience such thing? If plagiarism is a punishable offence, isnt plagiarising music wrong? Did you ever experience such thing?

Handel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and many more .... they all did it. Sometimes they acknowledged it but many times they didn't. Sometimes it's called 'quoting' and is done tongue-in-cheek for those in the know at other times it was just blatant stealing but all of those great composers 'borrowed' tunes and made them their own.

But dont we lose respect for the composer? because a person who did it once will do it again? also if found guilty shouldnt they be stripped of the awards they won for that particular creation or shud i say copy.

@fuddhu Well, of course, there is copyright in music, especially in the field of popular music, and some cases of plagiarism have been taken to court. On the other hand, songs are quite often re-written, especially when they are from another language. The lyrics may be translated or they may be completely rewritten and the song rearranged, often with a very different interpretation. Usually, credit is given to the original composer (and lyricist) but this may not always appear on the credits and copyright notices of the new recording. Plagiarism in music is rather different from plagiarism in writing because a melody may be arranged in a completely different way from the original and that arrangement and interpretation is just as valid and original a piece of art as if the composer had used his own melody.

Plagiarism is always wrong. So many artists have been cheated out of their creativity and it is sickening, but thankfully now copyright is a huge deal. It's important for people to always be educated and protecting their work. There's has been countless times I have been let down by an artist whose song i really admired and come to find out their song wasn't actually theirs. As long as they have the rights to the song, I don't care as much anymore as I can admire and respect people different interpretations of my favorite song as long as they do it the right way.

It is wrong but you have to be able to prove it.
