My dual series of favorite songs with morning in the title and another, generalized time of day in the title comes to a close. This one may shock some people (yeah, I'm talking to you @JohnRoberts ), but there isn't any song anywhere, anytime, from anyone that can beat this gem. Here's my favorite "time of day" song.
#1: Twilight Time - Platters
Holy crap. What a song.
From the days when pop music was well-crafted and well-delivered we had the Platters, an all-black vocal group that had tremendous success in music in an era when segregation was still active and music by African-Americans was called "race records."
"Deepening shadows gather splendor as day is done." Yeah, that's how you write a good song. And those harmonies. Wowza.
In my list of all-time favorite songs that aren't country songs there are two Platters songs the list (the other one is "The Great Pretender," which is my third-favorite song ever, of any genre). Their music was timeless, as this song about twilight proves.
Thanks for reading.
Twilight Time
Written by Buck Ram, Marty Nevins, Al Nevins, and Artie Dunn
Recorded by the Platters
Released as a single, 1958

Excellent. An all time classic everyone can agree upon. However there are time songs I would rather listen to. Yeah, you can cringe that I would rather hear The Chambers Bros Time.
