Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom is worshiped today. Students in Bengal celebrate this day with joy and devotion. Makeshift temples are erected in many schools and in parts of villages and cities. This is the day when you will see even small girls in their mothers' saris. And this is the day when seeds of love will sprout in the hearts of many teenage girls. Many parents believe in introducing their little ones to alphabets with "chalk in hand" (Hatey-khori) ceremony. The weather is in a festive mood too as it is spring!
