This is a subject of many discussion posts on here. And most of them would be talking about how overwhelming notifications can be. I suppose they could be if we don’t check them regularly - but for some members even when they are here daily, going through their notifications is a chore.
Now, that’s one problem I never have on here though. As you can see, I checked every single item I can possibly get notified for, but I have never felt overwhelmed by the number of notifications I get...
The highest the number in the small red circle ever said that I could remember of for me would be 40. Right now the number next to ‘Notifications’ under my username dropdown says 361. That’s the total for a week’s worth of notifications that I received. So if I take a daily average, I’d say I get around 50 notifications a day, that’s all!
That would hardly make me feel overwhelmed. Besides, for each discussion, it’s most likely that I’d get three notifications – one each for like, comment/response, and mention that I'd receive. So with around 50 notifications a day, it means I only have to go through about 17 discussions a day.
I wonder what’s everyone else’s average would be, especially for those who feel overwhelmed by notifications.

I have 100 sitting there at the moment and they go back to two days ago. I delete them when I deal with them. I have many shut off 'likes for example) and I don't always go through them in the order that they arrive. I know that some people are sleeping now so I can deal with theirs in a few hours and concentrare on the others which might have only just arrived and be from people who are here and posting right now. then we can banter
I have no idea what the average is. It depends on how active I was and whether I interacted with those who comment back too. I don't consider notifications as a 'chore' at all. I LOVE it when they arrive ajnd the more the merrier

@sishy7 Yes, the red number. Once I open them then I have to deal with them and have to stop poking about so I leave them for a while

As always, you know me . . . I don't keep track of the numbers . . . but I see what I see! I actually was able to tame the notifications a bit this week (but it "helped", sadly, that many have fallen off at the bottom earlier in the week). But with not being here most of yesterday, I am back to an overwhelming notification list again. I think it was last last week that it actually got over 300!! Right now it's at 168. But like I said, I don't keep track, so I have no idea what the average is . . . let's just say it's always A LOT.

@sishy7 The sad part is I don't check that email for notifications . . . it's seriously too much (on top of other emails that may be there . . . I really do need to go there and do some seriously cleaning). I keep trying to get through the notifications but then new ones pop up at the top. It's never ending!

My average number of notifications per day works out to 122.
The only things I receive notifications for are direct tags. Someone must tag me before I am notified. (I shut everything else down the second day I was here on myLot.)
There are times when I have come onto myLot and found well over 200 notifications. I start complaining when the number reaches about 90. (I can usually manage my day with 75 to 80 notifications, but beyond that I start feeling hopeless.

@DaddyEvil Yeah, I'm fully aware of that actually... Also, I have this tendency of interacting on discussions where no one seems to notice - new users, no response, and other not-so-popular type of discussions. I guess I really know how to minimize my notifications, eh?

@sishy7 You do realize that it is because of the way you myLot, right? Quit using sishy mode and make comments, even banal ones, to all the discussions you simply read and like, hon! I am not joking or teasing right now.
You'd find you have as many or more notifications to respond to as I have! (I do try to leave meaningful comments, but you need to start interacting more on myLot! You and PA both have that problem! The difference is that she complains because nobody talks to her but then I see her using sishy mode again after telling her to quit that! SMH!)
*sigh!* Some days, I regret acting as a big brother to people on myLot! (You HAVE to know I love everyone I consider a friend here, right? Some of you make me despair of training you on social etiquette! )

Yes, and they even lump them together if many falls under one action in a particular discussion. For instance, if your latest discussion receives 10 new responses, there's only one notification for all of them. That's why I'm confused when people say they're extremely flooded by them, do they really get hundreds of new notifications at one particular time throughout the day?

@sishy7 Yes, sishy, if you see me saying I am flooded, it is because I have a list a mile long.
If two or more people reply on the same discussion, yes, those are all received lumped together.... BUT, say I had been on several discussions so a person (A) replies to me on discussion A. Then someone (B) replies to me on discussion B. A third person (C) replies to me on discussion C. (Those are all separate notifications, right?)
Now, say someone else (D) replies to me on discussion A. That one is a totally new notification, too. Person (B) replies to me again on discussion B. That is another separate notification. Then person (C) replies to something I said on discussion A. Another separate notification.
You know I hit many discussions every day. I also have many more people talking to me on all those discussions, as well.
I can easily have well over 100 notifications every day, and do.... Now does this make sense to you?
I have been gone for the last four days, so my notifications trailed off.... I had 244 when I got here this afternoon. I am down to 158 right now. To me, the original number was seriously overwhelming. The amount I have now is still daunting, but I am working with them and getting them cleared as quickly as I can.
SMH! *sigh!* I have to get up at 5:30 am to get ready for an early day at work... You KNOW I am looking forward to it. Ha! Ha! (Nah, not really laughing. That was sarcastic laughter! grinning at you!)

This depends on how active I am on Mylot. This month the e-mails are high; however, I have 2 items that I'm planning to buy a waterlily and a latch hook. Last month I saw a Purple Water Iris and that is now in my pond.

@sishy7 That would be great. I love looking at flowers, so will be doing a lot of posting to see a red or pink flower in my pond.

@Fishmomma I was wondering what is it that you have in your avatar... It's something to do with flowers, isn't it?

I have restricted the choice as regards receiving notifications are concerned. The number varies in accordance with my activity. It may be around 20-30 per day. I clear my notifications, before jumping on to the new posts.
My notifications are mainly those where others have responded to my posts or have made counter comments on my posts.

@velvet53 I check them regularly and I don't get too many in the first place... So it's pretty easy for me to keep track which ones are new... The number in small red circle indicates how many new ones I get, and the time stamp next to each one helps too... Sometimes I even purposely reopen some to see how the discussion has progressed since last I was notified... I just like to read all responses and comments on discussions I'm interested in

@sishy7 Well, I've used it, but these days with not even having much time to be on line, I certainly don't have time for that.

I come here several times a day to take care of notifications. Some mornings, it takes me over an hour just to deal with them. You can shorten your notification list by unchecking all the 'likes' on the list. That way, you don't have to spend time dealing with them and have more time for commenting.
Your notifications are usually about interactions from others so it would be good to respond to them with a comment or even a 'like.' When you respond with a comment, you can get a longer interaction going and that adds pennies to your total.

I don't count them at all- just go ahead and check them- usually by email rather than the list.

It doesn't bother me when it comes to the notifications. I enjoy it helps out with all the spare time I get. Keeps me from being board. And I love to see the fact that others did take time out to read/ comment I usually have about 43-50 a day

This is good, my only issue about notifications is that after I delete them the same ones come back and I waste a lot of time going right back to the same one to see that I have already liked, commented and gone to that person's discussions also.

Oh... I'm not aware of such issue but I also don't delete notifications... Maybe it looks like the same one because it's for the same discussion but it's actually showing up again as new because it just receives new interaction from other members...

You can make a separate folder in your mail so that, instead of going to your inbox, they will go directly there. I have them set up like that and my inbox is not clogged up

I go through my notifications every morning and every afternoon. I have adjusted the settings not to receive notifications for likes, or people who respond to discussions I suggested. In the morning I usually have from 95 to 120 notifications.

Right now I have over 200 to go through, but since I've only taken 'like' off the list, and most are doubles with respond and mention, I have just over a hundred to go through. It does and doesn't feel overwhelming. I enjoy going through the notifications because it gives me a chance to connect with everyone who responded to my post or to a comment I left on their post. My average is about a hundred a day.

I don't get notified for likes....that thinned my notifications to something not quite so intimidating, maybe I'll keep track of how many I get each day.

@Morleyhunt That's a good number! I find that when I'm more active, it reflects on more notifications too. The longer I'm gone, the number of notifications will fall drastically toward the later period of my absence.
