So ugly, it's cute!

This fabric for this skirt yelled at me from across Jo-Ann's one day. It was loud and demanded my attention so I purchased a yard and a half. When I got it home and showed my husband, he looked at it and asked, "Really?" He agreed that it was so ugly, that it edged into cuteness. I had no idea what I would make until I remembered Simplicity pattern 8153. It was perfect. I needed something with simple lines and pockets that would allow this fabric to say what it wanted- and it had plenty to say. This skirt went together very quickly, in one weekend. The next time I make this skirt, I may try having a flat front and do the back with elastic. I know that will require some tweaking of the pattern but I'm not afraid to take risks! . ....I'll just ask my mother how to do it first, ha!! (I'm trying to get the picture posted right way up. I hope it works!)

You will feel right at home with such colors if you are travelling to Hawaii. I think that is the place where most people wear ridiculously colorful dresses.

@AranciataRoss No need, you can get the colorful fabrics when you go to Hawaii. I am sure they sell them cheaper there.

I have seen women from Ghana wear something similar when it comes to the colour combination and fabric pattern at a music festival.

I don't know where my ancestors are from (black American, no clue of my origins beyond a continent), but I love the idea that maybe I was drawn to the fabric because of my unknown ancestors. Thank you for that warm thought.

Aww, the picture is still upside down - it's okay, I tilted my head far enough to take a good look of the skirt and I must agree with you...
