1959 – In memoriam “the day the music died” Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper join the Rock and Roll Band in the sky dying tragically in a plane crash. 1962 – Gene Chandler gets on the charts with “The Duke Of Earl”. This record has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and has been selected by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. 1963 – Johnny Thunder get on the Billboard Top 40 chart with his rendition of the children’s nursery rhyme “Loop De Loop”. 1968 – The Beatles record “Lady Madonna” which went on to number one. 1979 – British rock band The Babys get on the charts with “Every Time I Think Of You”. I couldn’t resist putting in actor John Goodman singing “The Duke of Earl” at the end of the comedy movie “King Ralph”. http://www.classicbands.com/day/february%203.html
