Widow offers up a $450,000 farm for any couple who writes a winning essay. The farm is a nice 12.68 acres with a nice farmhouse and room to roam. Any couple between the ages of 25 to 50 can enter the contest. The entrance fee is $300 and the couple must explain why they want an organic farm in the essay. Resumes and references are to accompany the essay. All entrances will be vetted by an attorney hired by the owner.
The owner needs at least 1500 entrance's to pay off the mortgage and supply the winner with $50,000 to start their new journey on their organic farm. The contest is open until June 1st. If the owner does not reach the 1500 mark all entry fees will be returned and the contest over.
I would love to enter this and win this farm! Anyone else interested in owning some prime property in Chatham County, NC can get the information you need from the news link below! Let us know if you decide to enter!!
Couples who dream of living on a small farm will have to write an essay instead of a check to own one Chatham County property.

Damn, I'm too old ..... oh yeah and I'm missing a partner, I suppose dogs n cats don't count.
So, can you scrounge $300? An organic farm would be so kool as well as healthy. All you'd need is a cow and some chickens and you'd be home free. What a dream.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you @Shellyann36 something like that would be an awesome legacy to give the kids. Hey, maybe your older sons would be interested to help you out, they're probably sick and tired of working for other people by now.

@rebelann My 25 year old might be but he is somewhat lazy. He would want to cut corners.

I will have to go check out the original link and see if they have done a follow-up. I see that the contest was extended until August 1st. Now sure how it turned out.

that would be so nice but a lot of people needing it would not be able to afford the entry fee only to loose to someone else. i wonder if anyone won

I think so as well. $300 is not too much for the chance to win such a prize and $50,000 to boot. Of course taxes in that area will be a shocker for anyone who does win it.

I think its a good idea but I doubt someone wanting it will keep it the way it is. Its hard to farm without chemicals...

@PainsOnSlate in that particular area there is a big movement for organic. The local community college even offers sustainability courses. That is the first of its kind in this state. Lots of restaurants in the Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh area use organic produce in their meals. For a couple that could go in there and really work the farm it could be very interesting.

@PainsOnSlate I am afraid that going organic is very hard to do. The land has to be tested and most properties that I know of, farmed or otherwise has had some sort of negative chemicals put into the soil at some point or another. It is time consuming, hard work and the deck is stacked against you even before you dive in.

@bagarad I hope it worked out too. I lost track of this so I don't know if the farm was won or not. I guess I need to go look it up.

Well I am out, I am too old. I have seen contests like this before, one was for a bed and breakfast.

This is the first time I have seen one in our surrounding area. I think it is a neat idea for the right kind of people.

That is one way to "sell" a farm.
Having no interest in owning anything else that involves work, we won't be entering anything like that.

It is out of the box thinking that is for certain. I do hope that she is able to find the right couple to get the land and take care of it.

@Shellyann36 There could be problems on either side I guess although not so much on the owner's side. Once the farm has been given away, the problems are over for the owner.
