I've written about these before, and judging from some of the responses, we aren't the only town that does this, but here in Manitou, we have a thing called the Little Free Library. These are small boxes full of books. If you find a book that interests you, take it, free of charge. If you have a book you no longer want, leave it. We have one less than a block from our apartment. I was looking through one to see if I could find one that my girlfriend might be interested in when I hit the jackpot. For myself. It was The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide, containing the five books in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy by the late Douglas Adams, as well as a hilarious forward from the author, and two other Hitchhiker's stories by Adams, Young Zaphod Plays it Safe, and Mostly Harmless. I haven't read the books in seven to eight years, so yeah, I snatched it up. I now have a ton of extremely funny science fiction to reread. Which is a good thing!

What a great find. We saw these throughout Europe and the UK and even one near a swimming pool in a hotel in Luxor where most of the books were in German as they have a lot of German tourists stay there. It's a great idea.

This is red neck country here, people would steal them and sell them at yard sales.

I had a local library do that same thing and it was great. They stopped it and when I asked why, the answer was donating all the books to a hospital.

Not that that's a bad thing, but at the same time, what a shame.

That is such a great addition to any community Scott. I have one of those here not too far to walk to..about 2 miles, but I am walking anyway, so... Good you found that most excellent book.

It has been years since I read the 'trilogy'; good find. I have the radio series on CD, might just dig that out this evening

I've never gotten to hear it The BBC has so much cool stuff that we just don't get over here. Especially on the radio. On TV, I always loved Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Benny Hill, and Dave Allen at Large. On the radio, nothing.

@teamfreak16 Depending on how you deal with the time difference, all the BBC radio is online. When I visit the US, I listen to Radio 4 almost as much as when I am home. I listen to NPR as well as picking some at random from the US. I've do so much now that I have gotten myself a stand alone online radio, so I don't need the computer on all the time.

Awesome! We have little free libraries around here too though it seems like most of them get vandalized.

Someone tore the door hinge off of one here a couple months ago.
