Whose Lift?

I thought that this might amuse some of you. Whenever I am confronted by a lot of stairs I will most likely use a lift if there is one. When I was I London we used the underground a lot to get around on. Jumping around on the underground we often moved from one line to another. When this happened there were often big flights of stairs to negotiate. At one of the stations I got into a lift made by a Swiss Manufacturer and what I saw made me smile. I took a photo of what I saw in the lift which is the one that I included with this post. When I saw this I turned to my hubby and said “So this must be the famous Schindler's lift then” well I thought it punny and funny at the time. Yes the Swiss manufacturer of the lift is Schindler the same name as the man who was responsible for saving so many Jewish lives during the second world war. Schindler's heroic deeds were later made the subject of the now famous film called "Schindler's List" Hence my punny remark "Schindler's Lift" Have you encountered any such punny moments?

You surely know that Schindler is not a "Swiss" name, this is a Jewish name and many Jewish live in Switzerland where the Schindler Group was founded in 1874, many years before what happened in Germany.

@maggs224 I am learning which are the common names here in Switzerland, because this is not my country. I surely know which are the most common in Italy, but I know that Schindler is very common in Canton URI.

@LadyDuck Hi Ana, I really don't know what are common Swiss names, I still do not know what names are common in Switzerland. All I knew was that this lift was made by the Swiss manufacturer Schindler. I didn't mean to imply that the company was owned by the Schindler that was responsible for the rescuing of all those people during the war. It was just that they bore the same sir name.

@maggs224 I tend to dodge harrowing movies although I'm sure I'd enjoy this one. Some can be really upsetting.

that is a bit amusing for sure! (while a pun on not as funny subject, still seeing as he lifted many to safety it works)

I have been in several places serviced by Schindler's Lifts, despite never having seen the film... Also Otis, Marryat, Kone, ThyssenKrupp and others - always the best pun on Schindler's though

That is pretty funny, Maggs. I actually was able to use one myself just yesterday, but I'm not sure whether the person thought I was cute or not. A young gal just returned from her stint in the service in Germany. She wanted to do some grocery shopping with her mom and talked her grandmother into going along. Unfortunately, grandma was done about an hour before the mother-daughter team and was a bit worried. When they came up to my lane I told her I thought we'd have to send the troops out to look for them since her grandmother was so worried. My husband is the punster around here and sometimes I find myself helping in that regard too.
