Use of The Microwave Oven

A microwave oven is a cooking tool that can really help us a lot in the kitchen . It can thaw frozen foods, cook and reheat foods too in a little time. At home, we don’t use it ever for cooking . I have thawed a frozen chicken there once. What we make use of it always, is for reheating of foods. That’s why all our storing wares are all microwaveable because leftovers would always be reheated straight from the refrigerator to the microwave oven , before it is served again . And I have known just recently, that when you will reheat food the container’s lid should be a bit ajar at one end. Hmm , I think so that it will not pop up. Before, I always reheat them with a closed lid and the container would just suddenly explode and the lid would be thrown and some foods spilled. For you guys, do you cook with your microwave or just use it for reheating foods too? Note : The picture of the microwave oven is from google

What do you mean? You just buy foods at the supermarket that are in microwaveable containers . Why can't you cook? Do you not know how to or it is prohibited where you live?

I have used microwave oven for ages and have got the hang of using it.Sometimes I use it to cure tea (if there is some moisture in the tea) besides reheating foods and thawing out frozen foods.

That is nice to hear. So, the microwave oven is your real friend. By the way, is the electricity cheap in your country?

Sorry but microwave is not in my wishlist due to some effects on health. I don't know if it is just a hoax or what.

Has it been proven that microwave has unhealthy effects on people? Maybe it will be so, if we cook our food through it. But I think with reheating which only takes seconds will not harm our health because anyway, the container is with a lid.

So you too. What we use are those transparent microwaveable plastic containers. I think , being microwavable , they are not harmful. Yes, metals and styrofoams are not allowed when using the microwave.

Since I bring my lunch to the office, I will reheat it wth the microwave oven. I always remove the lid when I reheat it since it will be safer. Sometimes the pop up sound can be very scary

You mean, you reheat it in your office's microwave? Indeed, in one of the companies I was employed in before, had a microwave oven where an employee can reheat his lunch provided it is in a microwaveable oven.

We don't have it yet but if we do I will cook pizza there. We have an oven before its an old one we cook crispy oats there, I baked brownies and pizza. My mom do the cooking and I do the baking but it always a ready made brownies that I just add oil and eggs lol. For pizza I just bought the crust and tomato sauce and the toppings plus the yummy cheese that I live to melt.

Since it is run by electricity, we don't ever use it for cooking lest our electricity bill might soar. Good to know that you can bake. It's my waterloo actually - baking. I tried twice but failed to make the cake rise, so I gave up.

@SIMPLYD If it says they are safe, I'm sure they are safe to not melt in the microwave. I know most aren't safe, because the plastics leak poisons into the food. I use glass to be on the safe side.

@SIMPLYD I don't know if you sell it here in the Philippines but in Germany and other countries in Europe, you can buy popcorn packed in a paper sachet and you just have to put it 1 minute in the microwave. The paper sachet will grow in sizes when the popcorn makes sounds and stop making sounds when all the corn have popped up. You can buy this with salt, sugar or nothing at all.

So you cook with your microwave. How long does it take for a dish to be cooked there? With reheating it only takes 2-3 seconds with our microwave.
• United States
7 Feb 17
@SIMPLYD The TV dinners are already cooked through you are just cooking them until they aren't cold anymore. But generally 30 seconds to 2 minutes. You have a really fast microwave? I take that you aren't reheating frozen goods?

@ambrosiaswchatz No , we don't reheat frozen goods. Though, I tried once when I thawed the chicken. It took about many seconds that I didn't ever try to thaw again there. It consumes a lot of electricity and electricity here is expensive.

Our microwave gave up its ghost and we are without one. I never used it to cook anything except corn on the cob. I did use it to heat up leftovers. Now that it is not working, I see how much I did use it in the past.

I do not have one and I do not intend to get one. When you reheat food does it reduce its moisture. I steam our food which keeps the food fresh and well moist.

Reheating left-overs will be easy in a microwave. Unlike when you have to reheat it in the gas range, where you will put it in a pan , then put it in a serving dish. You have two utensils to wash , after.

We have a microwave the toaster oven thing was not as fast and kids get impatient. We have a splatter guard is I think what they are called and you put it over the plate and it has vents works great no splatter in microwave to clean up just rinse dry and reuse.
