The Great Detective

Baker St

Baker Street, being home to the Great Detective, it will be no great surprise that the motif on the Tube Station platforms is the man himself. The photo shows the Bakerloo platform, where the tiles have miniatures of the classic Holmes head, with deerstalker and pipe. The patterned tiles are arranged to show a larger scale head of the detective. I had a day in the city, yesterday, taking piccies and visiting some places I hadn't been to before. I shall see if I can stick up a few more before the day is over.

Sherlock Holmes, my favorite detective. I would love to have the Sherlock Holmes Tour of London, exploring places featured in the books. May be one day.

@Ronrybs I can easily imagine that it's not a short tour. I have read all the novels and watched great TV series, the area where he moved is a large are, in London, but also in the countryside around London.

@LadyDuck Indeed, at one point I do believe he is in the Lake District and we mustn't forget Dartmoor!

My friend lives close to Baker street and when I told her about Sherlock Holmes, she had no idea about the history of this street! I am thinking about sending her links to the tv show!

@Ronrybs it must be nice to live around there. I think that there also a museum of Sherlock Holmes, have you ever been?

Modern Baker St gives few clues to its illustrious, fictional, hero. There is a statue of a Great Detective in front of Baker St Station, but that is on Marylebone Road

@Tampa_girl7 I did get myself a collection of short stories by modern authors. If you ever come across a book of short stores called 'Flashman and the Tiger' do have a read of the title story. It helps if you have read the Adventure of the Empty House as you can get stuck straight in

That is interesting. I didn't know that there was a real Baker Street. I love the Holmes movies but you know which is my favorite Disney's The Great Mouse Detective I love the cartoon.

Never seen the Mouse Detective. I was an unusual child and was not a fan of Disney!

They have a Scherlock Holmes themed pub in Denver called Baker Street that's kind of fun once in awhile. Expensive, though.

Not that keen on the TV shows, with the exception of Elementary. Not sure if that really counts!

That's a great way to decorate the station. And you know immediately who they're depicting.

It is fascinating how one character has come to be the gold standard for detection and is recognised the world over
