A Beautiful Expense

Our older son is entering the poor house, little by little, with all the activities his children do.
The latest one is guitar lessons for our six year old grandson. After going to the theater, he became fascinated by the beautiful guitar music he heard on stage.
As a result, he has been taking guitar lessons and is doing quite well. By the way, besides my husband, he is the only one in the family who can sing on key with his sweet voice.
We may have an upcoming star in the family!
I believe that playing a musical instrument is a gift. I took piano lessons for eight years, but have zero talent.
Do you play a musical instrument?

I appreciate when others play. I did have a Yamaha Keyboard and enjoyed experimenting there.

@DianneN But you must be playing for your own joy. What instruments do you play?

@allknowing I can barely play the piano. Trust me, you would suffer listening to me.

No I never got into it. My kids do though. My 14 year old is very talented and has gone to All State. He plays baritone. He's learning trumpet, can play drums, piano, and a few others.. but baritone is his main instrument. My daughter plays sax, and my 10 year old is now playing baritone as well.

@DianneN My husband carries the musical talent gene I think.
I played flute for a year.. but where I went to school kids got beat up if they carried around instruments, so I didn't stick with it.

I don't but I love people who do. My husband too has a good singing voice while I'm totally off key.

Wow that is awesome. I love to see children playing instruments. I don't play any but as you know my grand daughter is very musical and loves all instruments. It is great that he is learning at such a young age.

Your granddaughter is very talented. I believe it's a gift. My granddaughter took piano lessons, but skating practice, homework, Hebrew School, and tap dancing lessons didn't leave her much time for sleep. At least she can read music in a pinch. Lol!

I have never learned to play an instrument. When we did try outs for band in 4th grade I walked in and we had to blow into the instrument of our choosing to see if we were able to do it. I was grossed out thinking someone else had out their mouth in the mouthpiece so I wouldn't do it. I was so timid I could never have gone on stage to play anyway. This photo is so pretty. I love black and white photos. This little guy has the hair of a guitar player. What a handsome face he has!

@DianneN I remember the post about him wanting to keep his hair long. His nose looks like it healed beautifully. I broke my mother's nose sitting up in bed fast to hug her when she was bending down to hug me when I was small. I remember it happening I was probably about 6 or so.

I am grossed out reading that! I would have done the exact same thing. I bet it wouldn't happen in this day and age. Ugh!
Many thanks. He's the one who refuses to cut his hair and was in the epic crash when a woman crashed her sled into him and broke his nose.

Could be a Star of the future you never know what can happen. I canĀ“t play the Piano for a toffee but I really like it so that is sort of half way there. Same as the Guitar Sue with five thumbs and the only Instrument I got to play was a descant Recorder playing by ear as you call it.
I would hardly make the top forties with that.
Its good for children to learn music it really is.

Aha, but I do have an ear for music. Its just that the fingers do not follow what I want them to do
I did sing quite well and I used to sing in the Grown Ups Choir all the Cantatas you would wish to hear of course not understanding of what it was all about.
Glad you could play though too.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I understand. How awesome for you to have such a great voice! I sang in a Glee Club and in teacher gatherings, but have an awful voice.

The only talent I have with a musical instrument is that I can blow a whistle and it makes a noise

It's great that he's taking lessons and enjoying it too. Many kids want to play an instrument, but then give up soon after.
I never learned to play anything, but I always wished I'd learned piano. Both my mom and one sister could play by ear, but not me. My girls both had clarinet in middle school and then piano in college. Neither one plays either on a regular basis. In fact, to my knowledge neither has done it since school unless playing the piano with their friends or something.

@DianneN If we could afford a piano then we'd know whether my daughters would still like to play or not. We used to have my mom's keyboard, but I think the batteries got bad and we never replaced them since we have no place to keep it out.

That's such an adorable picture!
I used to play the harmonium. And train in indian classical music. But I had to give it up.. I jist didn't find it interesting back then. I think I might start with my training again.

I play guitars and the drums but I am looking into learning the keyboard. I guess that it will be the safest way to go for me. I hate tuning the guitars and the drums. With the keyboards, I don't think you need to do that. I will also study on how to use computer software to create music. I have seen it in Youtube. You could create a possible hit with the help of your computer. I just need to work on my vocals. I am way off key.

I tried to learn guitar. My high school girlfriend tried to teach me piano. I wasn't much good at either. She finally gave up and told me to just enjoy listening to her play.
I hope your grandson keeps working on his guitar playing. Being able to play an instrument is such a gift..
