Are You Kidding Me?

This afternoon I needed to fill my van with gasoline (petrol, for the British). The price has been jumping around so I was hoping to find some that was still at the lower price.
The first well priced gas station had a lineup onto the roadway...I knew where it was usually less and it was on my way to my destination....I'll wait.....
I pulled off the highway and peered towards the gas stations... $1.05 per litre....in that case I'll go to Canadian Tire down the road and at least get a $.03 premium for paying cash.....
I'm ready to pull in at Canadian Tire....$1.05 per litre....when I spot ESSO, across the road.....$0.95 per litre. A quick turn around...a short wait in line.
My debit card is processed, I start to pump gas....I look up at the sign (I'm not the only one, the car filling up behind me spots it as well).....
The sign just changed to $1.05 per litre. A quick check of the pumps price...no, I'm still getting mine for the lower price.
The people still waiting in line are going to be plenty mad when they see what they are paying.

Wow, that reminds me of the 70s here when people were waiting in line for gas. Gas was around $.40 a gallon and we thought it was outrageous! It keeps going up and down here, too. I'm just glad I don't live in New York or Los Angeles where it's the most expensive in the country. I saw it for $1.99 today.

Our gas prices seem to jump up and down.....mostly up. $1.05 per litre works out to about $4.00 per US gallon.

You were lucky! That's never happened to me. I think that most of our petrol stations change their prices when they are closed. You are still paying about half what we pay here. Petrol here is about £1.23 a litre (diesel is £1.25) and $1.05 Canadian is currently equivalent to £0.64!

That had never happened to me before.
Gas prices are low compared to what they have been, but let's face it...no one wants to pay more than necessary....the taxes added to gasoline here I. Canada make up a large part of the cost.

We have seen prices change while looking at the sign. It is frustrating, but what choice do we have @MorleyHunt
All of us need fuel.

@Morleyhunt That is all weird b/c the fuel that is in the ground was purchased at the previous price.

@PatZAnthony when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, we watched our gas prices double in four hours. That is the only time the gas company was charged for gouging the public.
The fuel companies got slap on the wrist. The public...well we just had no choice... You pay and pay and pay.

This is the first time I've seen it change while I was pumping gas. I sure checked quickly to make sure that I was paying the lower price that had been shown whe. I pulled into the gas station.

I always wonder how the oil companies can justify the amount they charge us for gasoline. The government is also guilty...they add taxes and then charge us GST on the taxes as well as on the gasoline. It's so unfair.

Exxon is called ESSO in Canada? Amazing. In Panama where I was born and raised Exxon was called ESSO also. The world is getting more bizarre everyday.

When I'm in the states even though the sign says EXXON, I read it as ESSO.

We've seen prices of $1.35 per litre which is over $5 per gallon. I try to combine as much as I can when I go out.

@AbbyGreenhill so far, I have not used the van since arriving home Wednesday afternoon. Let's see how long I can make this tank last.

And a race to the finish for the lowest gas price. At this point I am glad we don't have a car.

Gas prices go up...everything else goes up...delivery charges incorporate the cost of the gasoline.

@Morleyhunt I know right? There's been a time or two when the gas was low and I thought, "I'll get some tomorrow." Yeah right!!

I see our American neighbours raise a ruckus when prices go up $0.10 a gallon.....we jump that much a litre overnight....which works out to about $0.38 a gallon.

Glad you got the better price. Last week I ventured over to the next town(where we were headed anyway) for a better price. My gas light went on before we left town.

I was watching the gauge pretty closely. The gas light didn't come on, but I was much emptier than I am comfortable with.

I noticed CT was at $1.04 and I drove around the corner and Pioneer was at .99.
I remember the highest I ever paid for gasoline was when the hurricane Katrina blew into the states, and I paid almost $1.40/L
I am glad that you got your gas at the lower price, its hard enough now that Justin has slapped that new petro tax onto us.

Even with that new tax. $0.04 per litre, gas prices jumped $0.10. How do the fuel companies justify that?

@Morleyhunt Every week our pumps jump at least a dime over night. Usually Jump Day is Wednesday night, so I gas up before I leave town on Wednesday evening or afternoon.

The cost of Gas is outrageous here in Canada, as often as i can I cross over the border just to buy gas. You lucked out. That is the lowest price I've seen in a long time.

Until the new $0.04 tax went on in January, that was what our gas prices were. Then a 4 cent tax seemed to equal a 15 cent hike.

I didn't see any other gas stations with the low price that I paid. They all seem to be at about $1.05 a litre. That works out to about $4.00 per gallon.

On Monday I drove about 60 km.... (40 miles) to anothe town. I saw a $0.15 spread in fuel prices. There are some stations that are always low. There are some that are always high. There is one that actually has full service, and price wise, it's middle of the road.
