Retired At Last

Well I did it. I retired from my 35 year career with Washington State service on February 1st. And now it is February 8th and I am still exhausted. I imagine it will take me quite a while to get over always being tired. That job was so stressful! Now to figure out what to do next. What adventure should I undertake? My new journey is exciting and new. So much possibility! Should I stay at home and write? Or should I go back into the workforce in a completely different career? Thoughts anyone?

I think travelling and meeting new people and sharing your experience is one thing you can do.

Traveling would be fun - I tend to enjoy road trips - maybe I will plan one. Great idea - thanks!

I think it can take quite a while to really wind down after working in a stressful job. Maybe you should stay at home and one day if you feel you're bored that would be the time to start looking for something else.

That is kind of what I am thinking at this point. I am looking for some work at home ideas as well. Thanks for the response!

Congrats on your retirement. Many years before I retired, I started a modest antiques and collectibles business. I have rented a space in an antiques shop for over 18 years and sell things there. I also have done freelance writing and some part-time work just to earn a little supplemental income. Fortunately, I have a pension from my state job. My suggestions - try a lot of things, see what you feel like doing, try to relax (I have a hard time with that!), and things often fall into place. I've found doing several different things that I really like works best for me.
