Chemo and Radiotherapy - how useful are they

February 9, 2017 2:36pm CST
A loved one recently got diagnosed with cancer again after " successful" radiotherapy. It really makes me question the traditional approach to Cancer. Chemo and radio both are significantly life deteriorating. They make you more sick than cancer itself. I have seen people suffering more after the chemo treatment than because of the disease itself. I believe healing is supposed to make you feel healthier and raise the quality of your living. I have never seen that happen with chemo and Radiotherapy. God bless all those suffering.

These are not treatments anyone in our family would choose because of the things you are saying. There are alternative treatments some would use, but most require leaving the USA.

I have read about some of them but that's also a risk . Like I could take it if I was sick , I could experiment with myself but when it comes to your loved ones there is too much on stake. But I hope there is more research done on them soon to make it better for the epidemic cancer is becoming

20 years ago I did do a few shifts on an oncology ward...new for me as I normally worked medical/surgical wards. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy both have side effects but often they work. I saw one person going through chemo for the 3rd time and he just said enough is enough. He felt the side effects outweighed the potential benefits so stopped active treatment and opted for palliative care. Both therapies can have initial success on treating cancer yet it comes back. Just the same as surgery can be successful and cancer comes back. I've seen many have successful chemo/radiotherapy and beat the disease long term.

I have read that the chemo and Radiotherapy treatment actually makes it come back . It's too painful to see your loved ones becoming a shadow of what they were , the quality of life highly compromised. I guess we should be thankful for the good health and never take it for granted

It depends on the type of cancer and form of treatment. Neither helped my poor father or brother in law, but I have seen it work on many others.
