Why Can't The Cat Leave Me In Peace?

There is nothing I would like more than to have a few moments of peace and quiet to relax and unwind when I first get home after a day of teaching. I'd like to be able to have a glass of Cran-Grape on ice, a bowl of Chex mix, and watch some NCIS or Law & Order reruns. The dogs greet me at the door, and I let them into the backyard. I head to the kitchen to prepare my drink and snack. Who do you think is waiting? Tiger the Cat. Tiger cannot seem to understand that I do not particularly crave his company when I first get home. He follows me around, climbs on the arm of my chair, tries to stick his nose into my snacks, and starts licking the outside of my glass. Him being on the arm of my chair I don't mind so much. The other two things annoy me greatly. Tiger doesn't seem to care how I feel about it. I can gently push him off the arm chair several times and he never takes the hint. He'll walk around the living room for a moment, acting like he meant to be on the floor, and then jump back up on the arm of the chair. Why can't Tiger understand I'd like him a lot more if he'd wait 15 or 20 minutes before rewarding me with his presence? Foolish of me to hope for such a thing, I know. Each cat thinks the world revolves around them. Do you have a pet who doesn't understand personal space or along time?

It is all about them. It is their home we just share the space with them. They are in charge. I have two cats who are the exact same way. No matter what I try to do they are there to let me know they need attention. One cat is always stealing food off my plate. He just walks right up and helps himself. He will come up and drink out of my glass. He just don't care if I like it or not. It don't bother him.

I read once that the difference between cats and dogs is dogs have masters, cats have staff.

I understand completely because my dog is the same way! She even tries to follow me into the bathroom-especially when I'm pregnant I have no alone time when it comes to her. Lol.

I must count myself as one of the lucky, mine rarely disturb me while I'm keypunching but if I'm at it for over an hour Ally will start sighing and eventually she'll come to the chair to see if I'm still awake. The cat never bugs me the way your's does, she just does a cat waltz around my feet IF she's in the mood for attention.

One of the squatters on our front porch will do the cat waltz around me feet when I bring out their food. She'll barely let me pet her unless she's in a very good mood, but she'll rub against my ankles and purr for all she's worth as long as I'm willing to stand there.

@DWDavis , oh can I commiserate with you. 1 of the 14 cats that I possess finds it absolutely necessary to accompany me to the bathroom; every time I go. He can be sound asleep on the couch, chair, table, etc., and the minute he suspects I'm headed down the hallway; here he comes. His name is Cry Baby and his name indicates it all. Yak, yak, yak, yak........

Joe would follow me into the bathroom. Tiger never did until Z went off to college. Now he jumps up on the counter and "talks" to me while I shave. He's probably picking on me because he doesn't have to shave.

Awwww, bless him. He's pleased to see you! I love it when my cats are like that ... when they ignore me I get most offended!

Tiger will sometimes wait on the stairs just out of sight of the dogs when he hears my car, and once the dogs go out, he will trot out to the kitchen because he knows that will be my next stop after letting the dogs out.

@Poppylicious Once in a while, if it's cold out, Ace will come right back in and chase Tiger back upstairs because he wants to snuggle in the chair with Dad.

@DWDavis Cats do like their routine. You should shake it up a bit!

I know he gets lonely. His littermate, my cat Joe, passed last winter at 15 years old. Tiger is almost 16 now and I wonder how much longer he'll be with us.

Yes, cat has personally claimed the chair I like to sit in next to the heater as his own. I throw him off he gets back on. I sit down and he is there. I sit in the chair, and he makes do with my lap.

Tiger likes to sleep on the arm or the back of my chair. Considering he has a whole room to himself upstairs, our son's old room, he is one spoiled kitty.

Mine barely notice when I get home. They bug me most when they decide it's dinner time, and won't leave me alone until they've had their dinner.

When he decides we're late with his dinner, Tiger will stand at the top of the stairs and make the most pitiful mewling sound you've ever heard.

@DWDavis LOL, aww! I have one big fat cat, Eclipse, we call him Fuzzer cause he's mostly fluff.. but he will get right in your face and won't stop bugging you until he's fed. He'll also trip you as you walk up the stairs where his food is kept. He's nearly killed me a few times!

Yes our cats are like that they lie on the floor and sleep and we have to excuse. Sometimes we're just walking along their path and one of the cat will scratch our legs

Tiger stays out of the way most of the time. He and my miniSchnauzer Ace don't get along very well. Ace thinks Tiger is a squirrel that got in the house and keeps chasing him. Woe be if Tiger ever gets annoyed and decides to give Ace a good swipe.

I know how that goes. Tiger is a talker. He follows me around at bedtime and reminds me to check all the doors. Seriously, he knows my routine and will go and stand next to each door and meow until I check it and tell him it's locked.

Awe, he has just missed you all day while you are at work. He is happy to see you and wants to play, I am guessing.

Why doesn't he go out like the dogs do? That would keep him out of your way for a while.

Tiger has always been an indoor cat. The only times he's been outside is on the way to and from the vet.

Yes, Doodles the cat, but his vocabulary is superb. He knows what five minutes means and sits staring at me for a full twenty minutes until he gets what he's trained me to do. Did I mention that he is extremely patient, too? Tiger just loves you too much!

Doodles is much more patient than Tiger. If Tiger doesn't get fed when he thinks he should he is very vocal about letting us know.

Cats seem much more likely to pick one person to bond with. When my son was home, Tiger gave me scant attention. Even now, when my son comes to visit, Tiger will abandon me and spend time with his "real" human.

I'm sure Tiger just want your attention. He just a cat, that how cat is. Mine mostly bug me for food when ever I got home. My mom already feed them but they will still bug me until I put some in their tray.

I wonder what I would if Preiti did not resent my being on my pc. I wonder what I would do if she did not demand that I take her out on a leash every day although she is free to roam all over without the leash. I wonder what I would if she did not want to share the couch and almost push me out I wonder what I would do................. And I wonder what you would do if Tiger did not do what he does You are one individual who is in great demand is all what I can say.

Cats are like this, they are lovely but stubborn and they never take hints, anyway they do not care, because they want the world to turn as they want.
