Did You Know Some Of You Are Counselors And Didn't Even Know It?

I sometimes wonder what some of my fellow Mylotters must think of me. I tell it like it is and share a lot of my personal life on here. That may be something others on here may either not agree with or might find rather pathetic. I used to go to counseling periodically to help me balance myself and cope with my lot in life. But, the free counseling I used to get is no longer available to me. There used to be a program where some counseling facilities had not yet graduates who needed a certain amount of hours of experience counseling in their employee and I would see one of those. They don't do it for free any longer so for the last three or four years I have had to find the counseling services where I could. Even sliding scale and the five or six a year that Medicare will pay for just isn't enough. I feel like I would need to tell my entire story to the counselor for that counseling to really have a handle on who I am, where I have been, why I am the way I am, etc. And can't be done in one or two sessions. Where on here I can give my full life bio and you folks I follow can give me their opinions on my worse of times. Or not as you choose. The cost has gone up too. It used to be about $75 a session and now it is $100 or more. They have some that will do it over the internet now too. Did you know that? Thank you to each and ever one of you who have given responses and your time answering my posts. When I am down and out I think that it really helps to just know others are out there and they care. Some more than others. And, some have experienced similar experience with their kids. It's like going to a group of women and men who have had some similar experiences in their lives. Thank you for your friendship and reading the posts. I appreciate your input in my posts and not thinking to harshly of me or the things that go down. I just love my kids and am doing the best I can to cope with them and their issues.

I agree, everyone here has been a life saver for me more times than I can count. It's awesome to have so many friends in one place to vent to and share our feelings with. =)

It is nice to have the shoulders of many to lean on. I am too thankful and grateful to everyone that has listened to my woes, supported me when I was down, and gave me encouragement to go on. Big hugs to you lady.

This is why I love it here so much. First I can get things off my chest exactly the way I want to . . . and then I will get input from all kinds of folks. Sometimes I will even get angles I never would have thought of. It's wonderful life therapy just to be here. And thank you for being there for all of us!!

There is no judgement and that is great. I get some new ideas on life here too. Like you said, different angles. You're welcome! I'm here for you all too.

@celticeagle It's almost as if we can understand better than a counselor . . . we get to know each other on a daily basis - the bits and pieces make more sense to us because we know you. We can empathize better too.

I have zero experience with what you are living through so I can't offer advice, just an ear and a shoulder.

I am sad about the lack (but glad you can find some help on here, I know I do), of available services. It's wrong for insurance to limit it that much, these appointments are as needed as physical medical stuff. And the cost makes it super hard for some to go, like us. I was lucky in that the last place was only 30 odd, but as often as I needed to go (once a week at min), it added up!

I think that Medicare will pay for one visit a month and I would need once a week at least at first. I didn't like the last one I went to about a year ago. That's something too. I won't go to some if they aren't very personable. It sure does add up. $3-400 a month is way too much.

I can't offer good advice but I will try to listen. I'll also try to comment the best I can. Mylot is a great community. We found each other here.

Listening is so important. Comments of any kind are good if they come from the heart and are positive. Mylot is great!
